So why is there a need to leverage if there is no other offer out there? That's all I'm saying. Some people are saying he would never leave Bama, this is a clown show, texas has not contacted anyone etc etc, if that were the case, why does Bama feel the need to give him more money, contract ext?
This is not rocket science. Saban being offered another job does not = Saban leaving Bama. He is offered several jobs every year. Nor does Saban not immediately signing a contract extension = Saban leaving. Time is on his side. It's not like Bama is going to fire him if he does not sign the extension. He is already under contract for nearly a decade. The smart thing anyone would do in his shoes is let the offers pour in, stay quiet, sign nothing, then use those offers to negotiate a raise at a job you already like.

Why are you being so dense? It's pretty well documented that Saban has met with Tony Brown, Fournette, Elam, etc. Why does this bother you so much? I guess it must be Sabans lazy reputation. Lol

By Texas' accounts, the deal has been finalized.

He has to recruit. He's still under contract to perform for Bama.

IMO it is because we want to ensure that he is still the highest paid college football coach. We won't know what to offer him until Tejas has their man. Imagine if we made him the highest paid college football coach again and then UTx decides to offer their coach more money. The raise we give Saban wouldn't look nearly as impressive if a UTx newcomer makes more than he does.

I agree. The point I'm making is you guys swear Texas hasn't offered and isn't interested. Everything That's being said in the world of the web is just rumors. If all of everything going around is rumors, why wouldn't have Bama addressed it? So you just give your coach a 3 mil raise because of rumors or just incase Texas comes calling? I find that hard to believe.

Nice try, but once UT hires a coach (presumably one that isn't Saban) then Bama doesn't have to offer Saban shite.

Why do you think he would leave money on the table?
Posted on 12/12/13 at 9:34 pm to Goldrush25
Whoever they hire won't make as much as Saban because they won't need to pay him as much to get him.
They can have Jimbo at 5.5

It's verbal and on his desk all at once. Figure that one out Sherlock. He is in Austin recruiting a kid in Michigan, Georgia and Houston. The man leaps tall buildings in a single bound. Owes $40mm on the Louisiana Purchase (90 day note) and has a house in every suburb of the Bevo's 40 acres. He fired one UT AD and has Patterson on notice as we speak, so to speak. But bottom line is, he hates Bama and will never succeed there. The bar is too high.

Why is Mrs. Saban in Austin looking at property
That'd be a great question if she actually was. Problem is she isn't/wasn't.

The original report on Inside Texas gives more details about Terry Saban's trip to Austin, including realtor information, ties with that agent to the athletic department, shady real estate dealings in Alabama, and Saban's relationship with Texas athletic department employees who likely helped set up the meeting. However, the report concedes that Mrs. Saban stated that she was only interested in purchasing a "vacation home" in the area.
So what is to be made of this report? With the backing of major players like ESPN allowing it over the airwaves and the historically accurate Jesus Shuttlesworth detailing her trip, it would be ignorant to just treat as hearsay. But it does lead to some important questions that need to be asked.
Why would Saban, the most methodical man in the country, allow his wife to travel to Austin at a time when the Texas coaching vacancy is all but announced? Did Saban think that this trip could have been done in secrecy? Does he really care if it gets out? (We've seen how he's treated job exits before.) Is Austin actually a city where people vacation?
"vacation home" or not she was there.
