Or a variation of it. Their problems have been mainly at QB since Colt McCoy left and hiring an offensive coach with an exciting new style would help alleviate this. I think they need to go after Chip Kelly, not Saban.

Chip wants to be in the NFL, he's not leaving Philly.

No. Elite schools like that don't have to resort to gimmickry.

Malzahn just signed a 6 year contract extension. Kelly, however, isn't doing too great in the NFL and could be lured away by a powerhouse program like Texas.

Texas has been trying to run variations of the spread since Vince Young left with limited success.

Colt McCoy did alright, but they want to go to a more conventional smash-mouth offense with a legit defense.

It ain't Kelly with his 18 month show-cause penalty.

The traditional pro style offense is going the way of the dodo. Your own offensive coordinator installed a "gimmicky" offense at Indiana and will be installing more and more of his offense when he recruits a QB to do so. Nick Saban admitted he will likely have to change his offense to the HUNH not too long ago. It's the future. Deal with it.

Guess I never really thought of 8-5 as being "great". But I kinda see what you're saying considering they weren't very good last year either.

In the NFL going from not even contending to the playoffs is pretty much great as far as their standards go.
