Hat – I live in Canada so its likely overkill but if he is sitting in a tree stand and your feet aren’t moving you do get cold. So based on that if you need warm boots go w a sorel or baffin w/ a liner these are really warm even when you are not moving. The other key is good socks – I love merino wool socks they aint yer paw paws wool socks – warm soft and sweat evaporates thru them. The other thing to consider are some hot pocket handwarmers – throw them in your boots for toasty toes. Now if he is walking lots while hunting all bets are off – when bird or bunny hunting in the winter on all but the coldest days (say below 10 deg) I wear uninsulated boots otherwise my feet sweat too much. If he has some warm boots and just needs a little more on really cold days I would suggest good socks and a throw a hot pocket in each boot.
