I wish I understood the Twitter language. I seem to be missing out on a lot of good stuff because I have no idea what most of this gibberish means.

@is just how you direct a tweet to someone. Let's say you would tweet joe blows twitter. You'd type in @joeblow and then your message. #'s are just the overall theme of a tweet. It's LSU fans tweeting at him so #geauxlsu means exactly how it reads.

You would post "#MandelaForever" or something along those lines. Typically, certain hash tag words will all start being used to give it popularity. For instance, you notice the "#hailstate" on MSU's sidelines. That's so everyone uses the same hashtag so it rises in the search index and popularity.
For the most part, twitter should only be used by celebrities, bloggers, writers, or websites to give people quick pieces of information.
I really like it so I can follow news sites, weather updates, and funny celebrities. It's really useful once you understand the layout/format. I really don't ever use it much to post my own thoughts/ideas.
