Thats the way it is at my house since the twins. Between work, my little business, and school again, she tries get me to stop and go do something on a regular basis. I will have more time in a couple years though and the boys will be old enough to go with me so thats all that matters for now.

I could be a little further from it, but not much. I am going to do what I am going to do. She knew this when we got married and was OK with it. I did it less when the kids were babies because I wanted to be around them more. Once they got to the whiney stage, I carried my arse to the camp. Now, they come with me sometimes. All is well.

Nothing wrong with that. I have a friend that cooks and does laundry every night. Not my thing though. I'm rarely in before time to eat. Like I said, I needed to read it as a reminder of how good I have it. I couldnt be further from the "look here bitch" type.
I hear ya. Sarcasm doesn't always work when typing, nothing negative meant.

I'm in the same boat. Have a 5 month old son, we are her parents house for Thanksgiving week. Her parents have land behind their house so I've hunted yesterday and today. My wife pretty much knows I came here to hunt and take a break from the daily routine. She hasn't said a word yet, as I've been getting up in the AM hunting, coming in around 10 and eating breakfast, taking a nap, and going back out. She won't mention a word about this until we get back to MS and I will want to drive up to the camp. Then I will catch hell about how I've hunted all week, not spent any time in the house, etc.
So take advantage and deal with it later. I already know I'm going to catch hell in a few days.

go to camp but before you leave tell her you want to plan a special night out when ya'll are back home and keep your word
If you Really want to go out on a limb and make points tell here you will go Christmas shopping with her ( this is not for the weak)

If you have to ask, then you know it's a problem. There will be plenty of other hunting seasons, but only one First Thanksgiving.

Good lord man. I do this every weekend.
Never. You work hard to do the things you love. Go and recharge bro.

Question is, does she work hard and do you let her recharge? If so, then I agree that it's not a problem. My issue is, I actually enjoy being with my kids more than being with hunting buddies and in the woods. I'm clearly in the minority in this thread, though, as kids seem to take a back seat to hunting. To each his own...

Yeah, the OP is obviously a horrible father who will never take his kid hunting when the time is right. People who dote on their kids make me nuts. If kids think they are the center of the universe when they are young, they will be entitled assholes when they get old.

Reminds me of someone we know.

Clearly you are reading more into my post than I actually said (maybe your conscience is working on you). I see no problem with spending time in the woods versus time with kids (hunters are typically very good fathers). I just like spending time with my kids more than hunting at this stage. That's all. As I said, to each his own. (You are judging me for spending time with my kid way more than I am judging the OP)
Many would rather hunt than spend time with kids, which is fine. Doesn't make me a better father than the person that likes hunting more than spending time with kids. Doesn't mean that the hunter will coddle their kids less than I will coddle mine. I can assure you that my hunting will pick back up once my son reaches 6 or 7 years old, just like my wife's shopping will increase when our daughter reaches that age.
And, it will be hard for my kid to have a sense of entitlement since I am a brokeass.

I have no trouble sleeping. I don't even have kids. I fish and hunt. It is a way of life and not a hobby. It does not mean I love my wife less when I do either. When I'm in town, we do things together and it works for us. She goes on trips to California with her friends, I kill stuff.

I'm sending my wife over. You're in Foresthill, right? She bitches about how hard our 2 year old is all the time.
As far as priorities changing, after about 2-3 days at the camp I'm ready to get home to see him. It's awesome pulling up the driveway with a big deer on the trailer and have him come running out with his coveralls on to see.

Probably not a trap but definitely ammo to use against you later.
Here's what you do:
When she brings it up, and she will, tell her you were surprised by her giving you the leeway to leave. You thought about it, wondering if you wanted to be away from her and the baby, etc. Then tell her you figured she was trying to come up with a polite way of telling you that she wanted to spend time with just her kin and the baby, but didn't want to hurt your feelings.
This way you come off as thoughtful and compassionate, but you still get to go kill shite!
