Started off this season 0-2 with losses to SMU and Longwood.
But hey, he did land a Top 50 recruit for TCU for this season! Remind you of something similar?

Just think if we would have hired Johnny when we hired Trent.

How many scholarships has he not filled in his first 2 years there?

Thanksgiving is coming up soon, if you catch my drift.

No kidding, but Alleva did make the right call at the time.
It also gave Johnny more time to develop as a coach and deepen his Texas connections.

Yeah, very few had issues with the hire at the time and after year 1.
Hindsight is 2/20. But bad fit, and TCU did us a huge favor. Thanks Horny toads.

Trent wasn't a terrible x and o coach. Unfortunately for him he wasn't exactly the best recruiter and he lost out when Butch Pierre left. Oh and Collis Temple didn't exactly get along with him. (supposedly)

I agree, I don't think he was terrible. Average to mediocre, but not terrible.
I liked him, I was pulling for him. And yes, after taking credit for his hire, CT2 turned on him and I was with Trent on that one.
But, in the end it was a failed experiment and time to move on. Both parties were happy I think.

quote:He was pretty fricking bad at offensive development and play-calling. I'll never forget us having to call a timeout because we were a split second away from getting a 5 second called on us on an inbound. We come back out from the timeout and got a five second violation... I had no words.

Thank you TCU

His inbounds set was lob it to the backcourt. Drove me insane. I think (or guess) his thought was he felt shortening the game was his best option, therefore designing inbounds plays that might score quickly ran counter to that.
It's all I got. I with ya there.

Who cares? The guy had decent success at Stanford and brought LSU to the second round of the tournament. He's a decent coach who didn't work out well at LSU, but you can't argue the hit after his success at Stanford. Obviously, I'm sure he wish he did better at LSU, but he wasn't a good fit. There is no need to rag him for his Tcu performance - the graveyard of successful collegiate athletics.

Worst hire in the history of LSU athletics, couldn't and wouldn't recruit for some reason, and could not coach a lick. He won with Brady's healthy players. Then went on the worst three year run in LSU bb history. His idea of building a program was a joke and will do the same at TCU. He is lucky I will give him that for convincing TCU to give him a raise. Look what CJJ has done in one year compared to TJ. For the record anyone could have won with the Lopez twins. Which he was lucky to get cause their mother worked there.
