Last night proved one thing

Why recruiting is so important
Why losing out on high school kids like Cam Robinson, Landon Collins, and any other big recruits that went elsewhere is a big deal even when the Recruiting Board tries to downplay it.

I am really more concerned about the loss of Robinson this year- with the possibility of Collins leaving early, we don't have an elite tackle. He was our only real OT target in La this year, and now we don't seem to have a suitable alternative. To keep up with the Bamas, you can't just settle for a mediocre alternative...

I couldn't agree more.
I often wonder where this mentality comes from. Denial I guess. A player or two can absolutely make a difference. A player like Cam Robinson protecting your qb's backside or roadgrading vs. just another O-lineman is HUGE in the outcome of a game.

It's not the guys we have missed on instate. Rather the guys we have gotten that have failed to produce of the field.
LSU needs to step its game up in recruiting. The REC is dropping some big hints in North LA. recruiting it's time LSU step up and get there and not be afraid to get our hands dirty, to get the players we need to compete!

If Landon was at LSU he wouldn't be doing anything special, He would not get developed or taught discipline at LSU, that's the difference. We get enough of the great talent out the state, just don't know how to teach them discipline and develop them.

Why recruiting is so important

I think there are a few guys on the field where LSU could and should have recruited a better player!

You'd think that $4+M would buy you outstanding and targeted recuiting

Realizing two of the best players on Alabama's defense last night were from Louisiana proves how important keeping in state talent is. Losing just a couple of the top guys every year is what completely changes the landscape of a team. That's what was happening to LSU in the 80's and 90's. Losing out on guys like Ed Reed, Reggie Wayne, Warrick Dunn and Travis Minor or just small examples of how programs can completely change by losing a couple recruits.

We suck. That was proved.

That would be the agents who talk them into going pro so they can make money off of them.

You have to win the big games for the good recruits to come. We haven't done that lately so why should they?
On the flip side, the incoming guys could see an opportunity to build a great defense, but a 17/18 year old kid wants a winner, not a rebuilding situation.

You can't control what a kid choses.

That is the problem the sunshine pumpers have to say something to justify the facts that Miles is losing his grip in Louisiana slowly but surely. Every year Bama is getting higher and higher ranked recruits and more and more recruits from Louisiana.
People want to bash recruits that go there but can you seriously blame them, they are playing the game to win titles and hopefully get prepared for the NFL. Well Bama does that better than we do, end of story.
Take a look at their defense last night, which no one can argue WAS BETTER THAN OURS. Bama started 3 players from Louisiana Collins, Silve and Devall. I remember what idiots said about those 3 players and how Silve and Devall wouldn't even start at LSU. Well they are starting on a team that has a better defense than we do. So they sure are having the last laugh.
