re: Tim Quarterman to start at PG for LSU tomorrow in exhibition

Lots of questions here. Is this just for the exhibition, or this CJJ saying Quarterman is the starting PG going into the season? If Quarterman is LSU's starting PG is it because he is just that good, or is it because Hickey has had some off the court issues?
Personally I want to see the best 5 play the most minutes regardless of class or experience. However the questions arise from the fact that Hickey has been LSU's 2nd best player for the last two years, and in many games, LSU's best player against big-time opponents (see Mizzou and UK last year)

I think Quarterman's length is going to be a huge plus in Jones' defensive system. Also, he may be able to make a free throw. The other thing is that it gives you height at one of the guard spots next to Stringer. You can switch and allow Stringer to guard the opposing PG and Quarterman can handle the bigger 2s.
I would not be surprised at all to see it stick. Hickey could be your spark plug off the bench with one of our taller 2s.

Most excited I've been in a while for a basketball season. I think we'll be pretty good, but I know we'll be fun to watch.

As of now, it's only for the exhibition. He made it a point that this was the last time to experiment.

Quartermann has gotten great reports in every practice and scrimmage. His only downside is he shooting ability.

I think this is what Coach wants to see in the exhibition (among other things). I'm not reading too much into this news though. Our starting 5 will change pretty often this season.

The only person I've hear indicate it could be an issue with Hickey is... You guessed it... Matthew Harris. He said it's the "feeling" he gets about the situation.
If I come to be wrong, I'll own up, but I'm not going to assume it has to do with Hickey not taking care of business based on a tweet by that hack.
My guess is it's Quarterman's length and athleticism that has him getting the nod in the exhibition. And who knows if he will even start against UMass.

I think coach likes quartermans length on opposing PGs. Try to force someone else to make the final pass. With his length he can get steals and deflections alot

Either way unless hickey is in trouble he will play a ton. Like some of you said it might be a match up thing to where they don't want two sub 6 foot guards starting and stringers shooting is needed a little more with that starting line up then hickeys skill set.

What's admission like to the exhibitions?

I would be surprised to see as much straight man to man out of this team in the half court this year. I would assume we would see more of Jones' trapping zones this year, though perhaps he will do what he did a lot of last year which was fall back in to man when not using his pressure scheme.

Stop griping. Seems like we've had nothing but sub 6-foot guards for years. Be happy.

Who do you work for, SOS? You cover the basketball team better than anyone.

He created his own site GeauxHoops (formerly of the house that Johnny built). There are very other reporters that do care though, just not very many.

Sounds good to me. I think jones knows how to get the best out of hickey. He prob still ends up with a fair share of minutes

Absolutely. I could even see Hickey getting more minutes than Quarterman. We will know a little bit more after tonight. I cannot wait.
