Can you expand on that just a little or are you guessing?

To answer your question seriously I think they are controlled more because the feds have more data on mallards than any other species.

Hunter surveys from every flyway
Banding data from every flyway
Ariel observations from every flyway.

The Mississippi flyway harvest more mallards than other flyways but each one kills respectable numbers.

That is correct. I was guilty of being one of those guys who never considered Cali to be a duck killing state. Look up pintail and specklebelly numbers. Cali does some damage. They also have a respectable number on rice production which means yes, they hunt in pit blinds just like those of us who thought we had a monopoly on pit blind hunting. I was one of the ignorant guys who thought nobody outside of Louisiana and Arkansas hunted flooded timber until I got to learning about it.

I believe California is the biggest agricultural state in the US. New York is also up there

Funny, but now you see how the vocal minority can ruin things for the majority

We used to be able to kill 10 pintail when the population was near the level of mallards

I guess they don't want the population to get low like the pintails

back in those days.. I saw more pintails than mallards all season long..

hunting coastal marshes and rice fields...

changing farming practices, severe drought(which led to more habitat in breeeding grounds being tilled and farmed...

and the crash of the fur market rise in predators..

sunk the sprigs.. not hunters..

Northern Cali is really a bunch of good old boys that just have to deal with the libtards from the South. There is lots of duck/goose carnage in Northern Cali with lots of rice acreage. The public hunting is off the charts at some of the refuges but getting on them is a major pain. Private stuff is obscenely expensive to lease.
