Top ejection just sucks if you don't want open sights. The scope in that picture is probably a side-mount. It's hard to tell from the pic.

Clames, I want to help you, but I can't. The .30-30 is not a good caliber for 200+ yard shooting. It'll do it, but it shouldn't be asked to do it. Just like a .45-70 shouldnt be asked to kill buffalo at 500 yards.

Try and at least quantify why. I mean Hornady makes ammo that puts 200yds easily in range with more than enough energy for a clean kill. Hand loaders have been doing it for years. Explain, using actual facts and numbers and not the "sage" advice someone else told you. Until I see someone post some numbers then all you have is hearsay which doesn't mean shite with rifle ballistics.

as a person who has shot a side-mount, lever action 30-30 for 15+ years, there is no way I'm taking a 200+ yard shot

I probably wouldn't even take a 150 yard shot
