Miles, Richt, Brown, Muschamp and Stoops

There has been lots of rancor on these message boards between those who criticize LSU's performance under Miles and those who will defend Miles to the death because of his record.
For those who defend Miles, let me give you the perspective of someone who thinks that LSU deserves better than Miles. There are a limited number of college football programs that are naturally positioned to be elite. Texas, Bama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Ohio State and Oklahoma. Other programs reach elite status because they hire an elite coach. FSU and Miami if Florida is down. Oregon and Stanford are other examples.
If you consider the first group of teams, five are in my view underperforming because of their coaches. Mack Brown, Mark Richt, Will Muscamp and Bob Stoops have their teams performing well below their status and talent levels. Saban, Fisher, Meyer and the team that Chip Kelly built are dominating now.
So, for the Miles defenders, ask yourself a question, and try to answer it truthfully. Which group would you put Miles in?
I'll admit that I think that he is better than Brown, Richt, Stoops or Muschamp. But he is no Saban, Meyer, Kelly or even Fisher.
So, are you happy with being good, but falling short year after year like UT, UGA, UF, OK and LSU have done with their current coaches? I'm not, but like the 20 Chollie Mac years that I suffered through I know that Miles will be here for a while, for the same reason that Brown, Richt, Stoops and Muschamp still have their jobs.
There is nothing more disappointing than unfulfilled potential and we're not the only program suffering through that.

UGA and Texas are dealing with that. You say this....

Why? This sounds like placation for the pumpers here. Les is a great person. He really is. Just like Richt or even Stoops, Brown. However, he is just as bad as they are in my view compared to the talent we are blessed to get here despite him. If anything he is slightly above Richt. Note the season comparisons between the two when you look through the seasons.
Btw, I still wouldn't put Fisher in "elite" status. He hasn't won ANYTHING and neither has Kelly. He quit and went to the minor leagues in my view. Right now, there are only 2 elite coaches. One of them is Urban Cryer and that a-hole called Satan. That being said, Saban is the fricking man and we should have held onto him. He is even better than the Bear imnsho.

Although Miles pisses me off more and more each game, who are you going to replace him with? Who is out there that is better? If you can't find someone better, you have to stay the course.
Not sure how he does it, but Miles stumbles into 10 win years. As it has been said, It's not that we lose (I can accept a loss or two) it's how we lose that gets me every time.

I wouldn't put Muschamp in the secure position. Foley doesn't tolerate mediocrity, particularly in football.
My guess is Muschamp is forced to can Brent Pease after this season, possibly to hire ex-gator Kerwin Bell, who has been successful at JU and is known as an offensive guru.
He can't afford annual losses to UGa, who is yet to beat, and FSU. He also has to hope FSU doesn't blow them out.
Foley's mantra is "what must be done eventually, must be done now". If he isn't convinced Muschamp has the goods, then "Boom" is toast.

There are plenty. I sometimes wonder if Lane Kiffin, if given a real program, and not shite-holes like UT and USC (at the time), he wouldn't do better at LSU. No reason, we shouldn't be able to pull Kirby Smart here or Jimbo Fisher here if we even wanted. Yeah no hc experience on the part of Smart but that would be a gamble I wouldn't mind taking. frick all of you who disagree.

You're a fricking idiot ... what was LSU supposed to do to hold onto him. He was intent to prove he could be an NFL coach and then discovered he was wrong.

Les Miles is better than Richt, Brown, Muschamp and Bob Stoops.
Nike and Phil Knight built Oregon. Chip Kelly added the offense, but make no mistake - BIG Corporate money is what built Oregon's program.
Nick Saban may end his career as the greatest college football coach in history... maybe. LSU was fortunate to have him for 4 years while he was on the rise.
Alabama will stumble again some day. I hope LSU is in position to take advantage when that opportunity arrises.
I have faith in Les and think that he'll keep LSU near the top of the SEC for as long as he is at LSU.
I WANT to win every year -- not doing so doesn't ruin my day/week/year or life --- if we were terrible year in and year out I'd probably still be a Tiger supporter -- but at this point LSU is relevant in all national discussions and LSU has the chance to win championships with Les Miles at the helm.

Laugh it up man. Think about it, dude has been given shite everywhere he's went. With a shitty UT team (with 1/10 the talent we had at the time) he almost beat Bama in 09 in Tuscaloosa.
Like UGA must beat Florida every year to just fricking contend, so our adversary is Alabama. You pricks with your bullshite have given ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that says "this idea" will beat Bama. If we don't beat Bama we have no shot at ANYTHING other than a Chick-Fil-A bowl win (if we can even pull *that* off with Less Miles)

He can be great or he can be mediocre
More so the latter than the former. Great is not an adjective that applies to Miles. He's good at what he does.
I think of Miles like people describe a QB who is a "game manager". (Not that Miles is much of a game manager). However, he is a "program manager". He can recruit. He can maintain. He can be solid and occasionally more.

yeah I know. We really are fricked now. And if you read anything yesterday, you'd know that motherf* aint leaving Bama until he's at a Tuscaloosa hosp with a cardiac infarction from over-work when he's 80 and Bama then has 25 natty's. We are screwed being in this conf/div ... really we are ... dammit, I wanna win NC! not the team that *could* beat these pretenders. Sorry guys but I want to win very badly. And it sucks we have better talent but we can't pull it off because we have retard admins, retard coaches, retard fans.

None of us are qualified to make that decision. I would put together a committee of five former LSU players who have success in life after Football. One from Saban's years, one from the Charlie Mac era, one who played for Miles and two who were considered "coaches on the field" when they played.
I would charge them with compiling a short list with specific instructions. Find good recruiters who the best X and O's coaches in the game today. They must be driven to succeed, have a coherent concept of how to build a winning program and the courage to maintain discipline and work ethic in their players.
No coaches, current or former, on the committee. They protect their own. No boosters who didn't play the game. No member ps of the BOS. Just players who know the difference between a good coach and a great coach.
