uhhhh yeah they are. Through every outlet possible, without the University saying it specifically...which is against the law
Yeah, you onviously don't know the law.

can we extend that to the entire city of monroe? maybe include west monroe too?

To imply that the university is pushing for the name change is to imply that they're breaking the law. They're not breaking the law.

I'm torching this entire motherfricker.

So the university should reprimand the coach for successfully selling the program to the fans? Are you even reading what you're typing?
the University should reprimand him for referring to an improper and illegal name to the fans. as he is a university employee and a representation of the university, you are contradicting yourself saying the university themselves aren't advocating for this when it's blatantly obvious

They won't be happy until we change our name to "Not LSU".

So official media outlets of the university can call yall just UL and the university has nothing to do with it at all?

I guess we won't know for sure until Snowden uncovers President Savoie's email exchanges.

The University isn't going to monitor everything the coach says. If Hud saying University of Louisiana gets the school in trouble, they'd tell him to stop. There's a difference between the university making a push and Mark Hudspeth selling his program. For you to sit here and say they should tell him to stop what is making him so successful is just stupid.

The University has guidelines on what they are to be called, every university does: LINK
quote:
Do not refer to the University as ULL in any instance.
Do not use the terms Lafayette or U of L, as they denote other institutions.
Athletics Nickname
quote:
Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns® is the nickname of the University’s athletic teams. Teams also may be referred to using shorter versions of that nickname. In most cases, Ragin’ Cajuns plural is proper, though Ragin’ Cajun in the singular form can apply.
Please include a registered symbol (®) as a subscript for the first reference of the term Ragin’ Cajuns® in text. The registered symbol must appear in every use of the logos.
quote:
Unacceptable Styles
Laf or L (instead of Lafayette), La or LA (instead of Louisiana)
Hyphens or commas in the name, abbreviation, or nickname
Ragin Cajuns (without the apostrophe)
Lady Cajuns (former name of the women’s teams)
I don't see a single mention of UL in any of that.

yep. not even on the unacceptable list where it should be. if you're going to list unacceptable uses, UL should definitely be one.

Why should it? The bylaw doesn't apply to anyone other than member institutions of the ULS. Are you suggesting that Louisiana legislators pass a law preventing citizens from placing the letter U and L next to each other?

You're always such a baby in these threads. You can never even make up your mind about what is making you so mad. First it's the university breaking the laws by saying UL which wasn't true so now it's the university not telling people to stop saying UL?

“The policy clearly states that none of our universities should use ‘University of Louisiana’ or the abbreviation ‘UL’ without including either the name or abbreviation of their geographical location,” she wrote.
sure about that?

I just want UL Lafayette to be honest with themselves. If you want to be UL, say you do and own it.
Stop trying to jump through all these fricking hoops to try and explain, well we call ourselves this in this situation, that in this situation, and we can't control what anyone else calls us. Your arguments change so god damned, one has to adapt to clearly lay out exactly why you're wrong in the particular situation.

Link to the university saying UL or University of Louisiana? There's nothing in the law saying you can't use Louisiana. That story changes nothing.
quote:
Short of that, Authement said he thinks the sports teams can use Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns without breaking the law.
“That doesn’t violate anything. That’s what we used on our athletic teams,” he said. “Some people drifted to the Louisiana.”

when those two letter together, and alone, represent the University of Louisiana with no geographical designation, yes that's EXACTLY what they did.

You just said Hud is saying that. So Hud is an employee and representation of the university, so by your own admission, its right there.

My argument doesn't change. The university never says UL. They say the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. They do not recognize the ULL abbreviation. They branded their athletic teams as Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns -- once again, not illegal. They do not want to be called Lafayette because there is a Lafayette College in Pennsylvania.
