I didn't realize how strong that Miami run in the late '80s was until I looked at the records. It's hard to gauge their overall strength of schedule, but they did play a few strong teams every year.

USC under Carroll from 2002-2008
80-9 over 7 years (89 games), winning two back-to-back AP titles, a playing for a third straight - and a BCS National Championship.
Won - 34 straight games.
Seven consecutive Associated Press Top-4 finishes.
National record - 33 weeks as the AP #1 team.
7 consecutive BCS Bowl appearances.
6-1 record in BCS bowl games.
Won Orange, Rose, Orange
Lost Rose
Won Rose, Rose, Rose.
7 Consecutive Conference Titles
19-5 record against teams that had a winning % of .750 or better
That's not too shaby.

I thought their BCS title got taken away...or did they get to keep one?

Bama fans act eerily similar to another fanbase they like to constantly trash. It's weird.

The only one that I think could rival them would be Nebraska 1994-2001. Alabama still has a few more years with the period I set for Nebraska. That's insane to think about.
Played in 4 National Championships, won 3.
One Heisman winner
2 Big 12 Championships
6-2 Bowl record
You mean 1993-1999.
Anyway Alabama's run doesn't even rate with only 1 undefeated season

They typically scheduled 4-5 top 15 teams like FSU and ND and a few mediocre independents like Tulsa and Cincy. Would you call that strong or weak?

2 conference titles in 5 years = greatest run ever? Haha, good one.

Nebraska was excellent but was lucky to play OU and Texas during the Mackovic/Gibbs/Blake eras. Their toughest games were against aTm and K State.
I am not a Bama apologist. I hate them. But they would have been unbeaten there too.

once in the run
Bama has had an outstanding run but they have been fortunate to win championships without winning the SEC or winning or their games
The Miami and USC runs earlier last decade are eerilly similar and more dominant in their three consecutive seasons (00-02 miami, 03-05 usc)
The Nebraska run between 94 and 97 was also more dominant (they were undefeated in three of the four years). The Oklahoma run in the 1950s is also worth mentioning (three consecutive undefeated seasons).
Having said all this you can't really compare teams from different eras. The Alabama team in the last five seasons has been the class of college football and that is all they could have distinguished themselves as being. They did it and that's one hell of an accomplishment.

they typically played multiple top 5 teams. The schedules ND Miami FSU etc played as indys is far tougher than any conference schedule could ever be

id say so. more impressive than anything from the 60s and 70s considering todays college football world
