Playing Ole Miss early in the season vs. late in the season

Recently, we have played Ole Miss the week following or two weeks following the Alabama game. The Alabama game is such an emotional slugfest that really takes a lot out of the team.
Do you think that is one of the reasons why the OM/LSU game is typically close? Does playing OM prior to the Alabama game change the dynamic somewhat?

Good point. All of our goals are still possible at this point. There shouldn't be a lack of interest. Plus these guys know its OM's superbowl. I don't think they'll drop the ball.

Definitely works to our advantage this year.

I posted this in another thread this week:
My theory is that Alabama is the key to how LSU finishes each season, not a big surprise. This all started after the stories about Sam Montgomery not giving full effort after last year's loss to Alabama. This will be the first year in a long time that we play Ole Miss before Alabama. I've compiled some stats of the 3 games before and 3 games after we play Alabama since 2007 to help prove my theory. Over those 6 years, we are 3-3 vs. Bama.
Years we lose to Bama:
Offense/Defense/Margin/Difference
PPG Before/25.11/17.33/(+8)
PPG After/29.00/25.44/(+4)/+4, +8
YDS Before/353.00/362.11/(-9)
YDS After/316.22/398.44/(-82)/-37, +36
Years we beat to Bama:
Offense/Defense/Margin/Difference
PPG Before/33.44/20.22/(+13)
PPG After/44.33/20.00/(+24)/+11, 0
YDS Before/413.67/303.78/(+110)
YDS After/446.11/312.67/(+132)/+33, +9
I think that we have more to play for after we beat Alabama, obviously. What's even more amazing is how the winning percentage of the teams we play after Alabama hovers around .500. In years we beat them, we dominate those inferior teams; in years after we lose, the score is much closer.
Hopefully since have not played them this year, our results will be reflective of how we play in years where we win because I would expect that we're giving full effort.

I think it's certainly possible. That's why the scheduling gods put Ole Miss earlier in the year this week and gave LSU byes the weeks before and after Bama.

Historically, Ole Miss was played around Halloween, with Alabama the week afterwards (supposedly at the request of Bear Bryant), than Mississippi State, and ending the season with Tulane.
It really doesn't matter when we play them in this day and age (as long as we have a bye week before Alabama).

Someone else raised this question a while back (not to call you a man of the Germanic persuasion), and I think it's a great question.
I think playing them with titles on the line will give the game a different feel. One of a couple of things is assured....
1. We either don't match up well with them,
2. They elevate their level when they play us
3. We lower our level when we play them (as we are emotionally not into the game).
I guess we're about to find out, but I think this LSU vs. Ole Miss game will yield a result closer to what we would "expect", when talent is compared, i.e., Tigers by a couple of TD's.

i hope you are correct. i have not thought of this before but it makes sense. LSU cannot afford a setback now that we lost to Georgia.
