An open challenge to Mike Slive, Joe Alleva, all SEC University Presidents

et al.....
LSU started playing football at night for a good reason....IT'S HOT IN LOUISIANA UNTIL LATE OCTOBER...
I challenge Mr Slive, the university presidents, and the head of CBS Sports to sit in the East Upper Deck of Tiger Stadium during a day game in any September....or even until mid-October...see how much they like the experience...

To be honest, if you have sunscreen, water, and don't have health issues then its really not that hard... Unless you just aren't interested at all

They'll make it through a few hours of heat and sun, thinking about their AC'd g6 that is waiting for them

I don't think all of them would make it for an entire CBS length day game...it would make the point though....

it's just not gonna happen in modern college football (having all night games).
i've lived in La. all my life and people are weather pussy's here. attendence drops when temps fall under 55 deg too.
the saints did something right. a dome.

The game against Florida wasn't even that long. Of all the things to bitch about from Saturday, this was definitely not one of them. The game took 3 hours and 7 minutes to complete - pretty much every TV game takes 3.5 hours to play.

Mike Slive says thanks for your note but that dispersing hundreds of millions of dollars to his member institutions means juuuusssttt a little bit more to him than the time that LSU fans would prefer to play.

this is the reality, but a guy can dream.....

I was in the east upper deck and I stayed the entire game. That being said it was one of the hottest games I have been to. It definitely sucked the life out of the stadium, If you weren't there I dont want to hear about toughing it out. That heat can be dangerous, especially for our older fans, and the aid stations were full. Top that off with the price of the waters and the concession stands running out of large waters and I dont blame people for not being there.

So, the same bunch that screams at the players if they miss a tackle, drop a pass, or fail to pick up a first down by pushing a linebacker backwards for 3 yards WHILE WEARING PADS AND PLAYING in that same heat cannot SIT and CHEER in it?
silliness.
Of course it is PREFERABLE to play at night. I'd choose it, too. But, to use that excuse while not allowing the players to use it is goofy.
And, no. I am not saying the players get an excuse. I'm saying the fans can stop whimpering so much about how tough they have it.

Not the thing to challenge them on. How about bama's weak-assed schedule? The concessions need to get better in terms of service and offering. That might keep people in the stadium.

I was very lucky in that I had a ticket in the lower half of the South End Zone high enough where I was in the shade...and that was rough...

quote:I was about four rows from the top of the SE endzone. It was incredibly hot during the first half (second was much better), but the concession stand did run out of water in the second quarter. I'm guessing they didn't get the memo that the cool front was long gone.

The heat was obviously less than ideal but the completely nonsensical new barricades and lack of police presence causing it to take 2.5 hours to get from Sorority row to Bluebonnet was absurd.
I'm glad I went to the game but I can see how it wouldn't appeal to a lot of people with how much better the home watching experience can be these days.
And to those who think expensive tickets are what kills the stadium, I encourage you to make an effort to get the thousands of cheap tickets available every game day. Going further, I present to you the list of all the teams with lower priced tickets and fees than LSU who have won the SEC over the last 5 decades:

This does go hand in hand with everyone griping about the gameday experience - people show up later, stand around in the shade by the concession stands, leave early, etc when it's a 2:30 or, God forbid, an 11:00 AM game in 85-plus degree La. weather.
I know, money reigns supreme, but why would it kill the SEC to let teams schedule at the times they (the teams) want, and CBS and everyone can pick from what's available, or have the right to reschedule one per team or something like that. It's probably the single biggest thing affecting the game day experience, which takes away from our team's competitive advantage (assuming you think the crowd makes a difference to the players).

I agree....too damn hot in Sept/Oct for mid-afternoon game.
Alleva, put a dome (or a big ole shade) over Tiger Stadium....you'd have more daytime attendance, guaranteed!

This weekend the North Endzone ran out of bottled water, then ran out of ice, and started serving and charging for tap water. This happened right after halftime.
Let's just say that the water didn't look exactly crystal clear from those old stadium pipes. I was cool with it but the wife was pissed.
Women were dropping like flies in the North Endzone Saturday.
