He wasn't THAT bad in his start against the Redskins. He did get sacked 7 times, but Oakland's offensive line is terrible. One of the big reasons Pryor got the starting job was because of his scrambling ability, but even he's been sacked multiple times each game. He wasn't worth what they were paying him, but that one game doesn't justify a demotion to third string and then being cut. It seems to me like there was something else going on with this situation that the general public may not be aware of.

Maybe, maybe not. Probably just a classy move by Oakland. They knew he wasn't the future QB there, and they're already on the hook to pay him, so it was a generous move to release him so he could try to catch on with another team in desparate need of a QB right now.

Win-win for Flynn. Gets out of Oakland and still gets paid, plus a chance to sign elsewhere and get paid again

How much did they pay Russell?

As well as Flynn played backing up in Green Bay, might not be a bad backup for Saints

Brees would be an awesome mentor to Flynn

Green Bay's backup QB is garbage.

If other NFL teams don't come calling with potential starting offers, he will be back in GB by tomorrow.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Miami go after him. Philbin was his OC in Green Bay that he seemed to really click with.

Nah. I was hoping the Dolphins were going to sign him before he ended up signing with Seattle but the Dolphins are committed to Tannehill. Flynn would be a nice pickup if he could play left tackle.

I have always loved Matt Flynn, but he is absolutely, positively, the most luckiest football player in the world. Two games got him 15 million dollars guaranteed and now he does not even have to do anything for it. Good for you Matt, you beat the system.

Yeah, let's forget all the work he put in from the time he was a little kid, through high school and 5 years at LSU just to get to where he was earning a paycheck and then the 4 years he spent in the NFL learning the game on a shitty 7th round pick rookie contract. He didn't beat any system. That IS the system.....Dumbass owners paying huge contracts on speculation. Maybe the system should be that all players are paid based on merit after the season? Well it's not. I don't know why this is news to anybody.

He should have enough money now to not have to accept a shite team to tryout for from here on out

It's a Catch-22. The NFL is a QB driven league. Generally, the good teams are good because they have solid QB play. It is the shite teams that are looking for help at QB.

My thoughts exactly. When the coach demoted him to 3rd string and said "it just didn't work out here" after ONE regular season game I kind of thought it was either a desperate move by a rookie coach to show the fans and management that they are willing to make big moves to improve their play OR Matt said something after the game along the lines of "our line and your play calling sucks". total blessing IMO. Hope he gets his elbow fixed and gets a few tryouts with other teams that are actually worth a darn.

Must be some kind of conspiracy against LSU.....

Well the conspiracy is mutual because I wouldn't wish any more LSU players going to Oakland

If he wants to be a backup he can find a good team. If he wants to start, there are still plenty of teams in the league that need QB's that are not named the Raiders, some of them suck because they don't have a QB some of them suck (like the Raiders) because they don't have anything
