What's astonishing about the film is its hypnotic seamlessness - the way that the director, Alfonso Cuarón, using special effects (and 3D) with a nearly poetic simplicity and command, places us right up there in space along with the people on screen. Entertainment Weekly

I was going to start a thread about this.
That is crazy.
I see the comparisons to 2001: A space Odyssey but you can't get 98% of critics to agree that 2001 is a great a movie.

I'm pretty pumped for this, it looks like an excellent film, however...
That's a bold statement from Scott, who is both reserved in praise generally and knowledgeable about film history.

Just saw it. It was a surprisingly good movie.
Most of the film involved only one character....sort of like Cast Away. They did a great job with the effects.
Not too popular considering the cast. There were maybe 20 people in the theater at a 9:20 showing on a Friday night in a Memphis suburb. I would hope it does well. I don't think there's any othe movie out now that's as entertaining.

visually stunning. yes, good movie? no. I did not like it at all, story line was wack and I just was not feeling the character development at all.

I thought it was phenomenal from the imagery to the acting.
If Bullock does not get an Academy Award for this, it will be a travesty.

Saw this last night.
Breathtaking. Mesmerizing. Brilliant.
Believe the hype. I normally don't, so I was still a bit reserved walking in, but Gravity is an experience unlike any other.

Movie is incredible, must see in 3D in my opinion. CGI is the best I've seen.

For me, the most important things about movies are story, acting, and dialogue. Gravity was poor in all three respects. I felt no urgency, whatsoever, in Sandra's plight... her fate never in doubt. Most of the plot details were ludicrous and much of the action was repetitive, but I won't go into those for fear of spoilers. Special effects were this movie's only saving grace, but after Avatar and Return of the King and Toy Story III and so many other what nots... who really cares?

I saw this yesterday, matinee show. I was the only person in the theater, sat very close to the front and watched it in 3D. No distractions. I cannot think of a better way to watch this movie as it really allowed me to be immersed in the solitude and magnitude of space.
All I can say is, "Wow". What a movie. If you don't leave this movie with an appreciation of the depth of the human spirit, you have no soul.
