Another reason he should be on the field...

Really?
Damn, that's the smallest looking 226 pound human I've ever seen. Where's he hide it? Dude must have a giant cock.

quote:Size is always a issue if you ever played football. The bigger someone is the harder they fall, but they are also hard as frick to bring down! Chavis most effective LB under his reign was a regular sized LB. Minter who was 6'1 245.
I don't think size is an issue.
I don't like this system he has of using these undersized players at LB because LSU will continue to get gashed on the run. They are easy as frick for massive OLineman to move out of the way of RB's. He claims he puts them in for speed, but what good is this so called speed adavantage done so for? Only Kwon Alexander has gotten behind the line a few times.

Yes I have played football, and played against plenty of dudes that are bigger and slower and they didn't do shite. You have to be athletic also. Unless you are just clogging the middle, you can't just be big you have to be athletic and be able to move otherwise a good coach can figure out a game plan.

While they have been unimpressive as a unit, I have been very unimpressed with Welter.

I'm not talkin about big, slow, unathletic neanderthals you may have played against in high school. If you played in HS. Those types don't go on to college ball. I'm talkin about the ones that can move and will move and knock your arse out if you aren't careful!

It's not that they're small it's that they're slow. The only exception is Kwon.

LB have enough size....if the DL helps keep the OL blocks off them...that didn't happen Saturday.

Kwon is the smaller linebacker and he played well. Its heart that counts, not size.

There is no way Welter is 226, Barrow is 230+ and Kwon is 220..

Where does Saban find his 260lb LBs?
You can put 260 lbs on the field when you play a 3-4. For what Chavis runs, I doubt you want that on that in the linebacker corp. With 4 down linemen you want fast OLBs.

These smaller faster LBs are too slow diagnosing plays. They should be engaging Olinemen in gaps plugging holes but instead are being engaged by the Olinemen 2-3 yds downfield and cant shed blocks until RB goes past them.
Dline is doing less penetration too. I cant tell if this is by design because they are worried about LB play or if Dline is unable to blow up blockers. With the size and athleticism of 9 and 90 I'd assume the former.

Being out of place & being inexperienced, but that is very coachable situation there are other positions that would concern me more

Have y'all not watched Chavis defense the last 4 years? He depends on fast LBs and has said multiple time he will not give up speed for size and strength.
Problem now is Welter is slow, and no one is tackling well.

Jones got moved to FB; I would have like to have seen him stay at MLB.
I'm with you there. I definitely would rather see him at linebacker.

big and fast > small and fast. Saban gets them because he can. It's not like they are easy to find or that there are a lot of them.

Minter and Sheppard 40's were 4.8s
I think its just poor play recognition.
