"We had some trouble getting the calls in and called the wrong calls sometimes," LSU linebacker Lamin Barrow said. "It was just a little bit of miscommunication that we go over in practice over and over. We've got to keep working at it."
so what can we attribute this to? youth?

And Welter is only out there because "He gets us lined up properly"
What a joke

Let's just blame the coaching.
It's the easiest route.

I don't know, maybe too many player packages in back 7? I am just grasping at straws. There is no way we should be this bad. But I am not sure we could tackle them or break up a pass even if we were in the right call.

This is a player problem more than anything.
However, I completely expect us to blow a lead in the final two minutes, even if we somehow were able to put the "Steel Curtain" out there. Chief would put tell them to sit back and let the other team win.

Pretty much my thoughts as well when I read the OP.

I know that, but no one ever blames players. There's a difference between coaching and play calling. The last few years, everyone loved Chavis (for the most part). Now, I guess this year, since the guys they have in there suck, he's a terrible coach.

Agreed. Not sure why Chavis loves that soft D. But, as bad as the DL is, you can't just leave DBs on an island while others blitz. They're just not getting to the QB. That hurts.

Can Beckwith make better calls?

Hopefully, Kwon Alexander done enough in this game to prove that he deserves to be a starter on the outside.

Sure, we were fine, in years before.
Folks, it's simply a bad year for defense. And if you want to hear someone say it: We need more playmakers on the DL, LBs and DBs.......bad year.
Chavis has proven himself.

It could be CLM's decision to go with the prevent defense and let the Chief to execute it.

I've heard this issue for a few weeks now. It's time Chavis calls the plays from the sideline.

I could give two shits less if he could, our defense already is in disarray with Welter out there and there is a sub-zero percent chance Welter is more talented than Beckwith. Time to make the change now. Beckwith will learn nothing standing on the sideline.

Our DBs aren't very smart, they get confused a lot. The whole point of playing coverage and dropping everyone into a zone is to keep everything in front and prevent a big play, yet they let it happen twice last night. Maybe we miss Eric Reid's intelligence more than anything.

I said it before in another thread. The most disconcerting thing was how our secondary had no clue what their assignments were. I've never seen so many hands in the air.
I don't know if it was Chavis not calling them in fast enough, the players not understanding the calls, or something in between, but it better get fixed and quick.

Agreed. It's short-term/selective memory.
When you have 8-9 new starters on a defense, who in their right mind thinks they would improve or stay the course?

The secondary breakdowns yesterday were infuriating. We havent played a smart enough QB to really take advantage of breakdowns until Murray. There were times where Mills had 2 guys to cover and had to pick one. There were times where UGA had a guy wide open in the end zone because one of the CBs thought the safety had that half of the end zone.
How does this shite happen on a regular basis?

Well, that was kinda our situation in 2011, and that was where most people had optimism for this 2013 defense.

Not buying that all the way. D line has to win in the trenches for a defense to be effective. They could not win individual matchups no matter what the call on defense. None of them beat their man one on one which was shocking. Murray. Of have a cup of coffee and a donut back there. I expected Georgia to come out and play "inspired" at home, but at some point you have to overcome that if you want to win. Oh well it could be worse. We could have USC problems.
