But what the author is saying that a band that's worth their weight in dogshit can go into a studio and create good music.

That's what he's saying but he's wrong. It's hard to capture a good live sound in the studio.

Eh, I disagree.

There's a lot of bands that want a super slick sounding over produced record.

I'm a fan of Steve albini production

Dave Matthews is way better than the dead. Way way way better. The only way you could argue that the dead were better is if you completely disregarded the songs that are on the albums and judged the merits of a band exclusively on live performances.

A cliche ridden hack article written by someone that has no real background actually listening to any of Phish's stuff

The "yea it's good cause you're on drugs" line was maybe funny in like '71 making fun of Dead concerts. It's such cliche it's embarrassing and a crutch for people that don't know what they're talking about

Yea the studio stuff is sub-par, but if that's your big angle with why Phish sucks, then you don't really get it. These articles pop up about once a month. There's not much unique thought going on here

Phish isn't my thing, but I think they and a multitude of other jam bands are immensely talented.

Just not my thing. And I play and write music and understand theory etc

You see it's shite like this that proves to everyone that you have shite taste in music. If you'd just keep this nonsense to yourself you just may be able to hide your shite faste in music but no you have to advertise it.

It's all good. To each his own.

But Phish sucking, and you not liking their music are two totally different things

This board is big enough for people who like The Jetsons AND people who like The Flintstones

I've explained my position regarding phish many times.

I get it. I understand phish.

I've seen them live and it was fun, but I wasn't tripping so I guess I didn't get the full experience.

I'm not exactly sure you're disagreeing with what I'm saying. But then again, I'm not exactly sure what you're saying. What do you mean "capturing a good live sound"? It's not about capturing a live sound. It's about producing a great song within the confines of a studio.

And, again, a band that is worth their weight in dogshit can do this.

Yeah, exactly. If you can't articulate what it is that people who don't get phish aren't getting, then congratulations because you just successfully stated nothing.
