Yeah they both did, but people love to hate on the team that looks like it hates fun

Instead they came down to his level in my opinion.
disagree
if the braves had thrown at the next guy or at Gomez later, that would be coming down to his level.
they just responded in the heat of the moment to someone that looked like he was trying to get into a fight.
Mccann should be commended for not throwing a punch at him in the baseline, I bet it took all he had to not jack Gomez.

I'm not going to hate on McCann for what he did, but I just don't think it was necessary. Gomez looked like a fool and was trying to bait Maholm. There was not going to be any fight because Maholm basically just gave him the "whatever kid" treatment. McCann took the bait. In the heat of the moment I can understand it so I'm not going to be too critical, but he wasn't "protecting" anybody.

The word "protecting" I think you are taking in a physical sense. Having a batter spout off a ton of things to your pitcher could possibly affect his confidence etc. Pitcher seeing your teammates having your back gives you that confidence back. McCann was "protecting" as any catcher should.

he was protecting the image of the atlanta braves from becoming that of a team full of pussys, IMO.
was Brian physically protecting a player from harm, no?
Gomez agreed that Mccann was protecting his players and said he would have done the same thing Brian did.

I can see the sticking up for your teammate argument. I doubt Gomez acting like an idiot really did anything to Maholm's confidence and would be surprised if a benches clearing scrum helped calm him down or get his confidence back if he had lost it. But like I said I can see McCann thinking he needed to stick up for his teammate and teach Gomez a lesson.

I should have phrased it differently, but you feel like an idiot if a guy is rounding the bases talking shite to you and you stand there doing nothing. Having a teammates back is what i meant to say.

SVP destroying the Braves right now. What a pathetic, childish group of players.
I kinda agree with him on the whole
The batter had been hit by that pitcher earlier, he took his revenge the only way he could (by waiting for his next opportunity instead of charging the mound the first time). People upset with him for jawing at the Braves while he rounded the bases are ignoring that they were jawing at him at the same time.
And you just aren't allowed to stand in the way of a hitter rounding the bases. That's not the way the game is played either.

taking revenge for getting hit goes like this:
hit a homerun
admire it from the batters box
maybe walk 2 steps out the box
jog around the bases and go about your business
he went significantly farther than that.
There aren't many teams in baseball that will stand there and watch a player act like that and do nothing.

Read that article i linked earlier if you want a pretty good rebut to your argument. I need to pack up to drive to Nashville hopefully in time to see the game tonight.

So, is last night's near brawl the spark the Braves needed to dominate again, or does it mean that the Braves are losing it?

I read the article and I would be very surprised if SVP hasn't also read the article. I think Braves fans are just blinded by their fan allegiance and don't see their team's mutual role as instigators
Posted on 9/26/13 at 2:20 pm to molsusports
I think you're blinded by your dislike of the braves. Bias is a 2-way street.

I don't give a shite about the Braves either way. Neither do I give a shite about the Brewers or Marlins, or the other teams this Braves team has been involved in issues with.

Doesn't Gomez wear out Maholm? Get him out, and you don't have to worry about 'getting even'. And this shite is getting dangerously Tony LaRussa-like.
