The error (and I think it was a major error) was in the use of the timeout
Yeah that's my biggest beef. If you know you're gonna kick the fg, which I have no problem with that call, then just do it. Don't frick around and play silly games. They know what you're doing. Just take the 3 points and save your TO.

And finally, has that Super Bowl conversion play to Moore ever NOT worked when you needed 2 yards or a touchdown?
In theory? Absolutely. But this is the exact kind of thinking will lose you a game if you stick to that regardless of the situation. But don't you think the Falcons would have keyed on that considering that's pretty much a go to play of ours? The risk of it not working out was exponentially more harmful than the potential of you to be able to ice the game.
You can't be wreckless in situations like that against a good offense, because they will make you pay. Just look at what we have done to teams in the past the same exact way.

I wouldn't be as mad about that considering now close they were to catching Bierman offsides. That's a cheap way and almost no risk involved shot to ice the game. If it doesn't work, oh well you get one less TO. If it does, you win.

I agree but it's just risky with time to TO ratio. Imagine if we would have had to drive 80 yards if ATL would have scored. 2 time outs with 45 seconds would have been a hell of a lot better than 80 yards in 45 seconds with only 1 time out.

I like gutsy calls, but no, not in that situation, force Atlanta to come back with a TD. If we missed it, all too easy for Falcons to bring it into OT with a FG , which we don't want on the first game of the season.

Down by 3, the worst you get is OT. They don't even try for the TD.
Fail

bullshite. They get to the 30, they go safe. They're not going to risk an INT.
The NFL is a pansy-arse "play the percentages" league.

The Saints O line had their head up their asses. If they were lining up to strictly draw the Falcons offsides, when the Falcons jumped SOMEBODY on the Saints right side of the line should have jumped too and would have easily gotten the neutral zone infraction call.

I agree with Rex.
4 yards away from ending the game. If you miss, they still have 96 yards to go.
Les was in a similar situation vs Bama last year. He couldn't make the gutsy call either.

3.5 minutes for an Offense like that is a lot of time to manage kicking three to tie and go into OT. We are very lucky they didn't score a TD. Kicking the 3 was the correct call.

You make as much sense here as you do on the Political Talk board: NONE.
You're arguing against yourself when you say "An offense like that" and "We are very lucky they didn't score a TD".

Take the points and force a touch down.
Was the right call. When they come up to the line they were looking for a specific defensive lineup and didn't see it. Hence, the timeout and the field goal. Good call.

No, it wasn't. And if Steven Jackson had caught the ball he should have caught you'd see why.
There are arguments pro and con, to be sure, each with RISKS... but going for it had a potential REWARD, i.e. an automatic win for gaining one yard, that outweighed the risk. Even upon a failure to gain that one yard Atlanta still would have had a lot of work to do.

4th down play is the wrong one to look at. They shouldn't have run Ingram on 1st. THAT was a wasted down

Should have taken a delay of game instead of calling timeout.

Kicking the field goal had a REWARD, i.e. and automatic 3 points and forcing a team(one held to 7 points for 45 minutes) to score a TD in the final minute.

And if we don't make it on 4th, Atlanta still sends to overtime with the Jackson drop.

Not really, they would have to go fewer yards in the same amount of time to tie the game with a failed conversion.

Thank you, Jim Mora. That was definitely the Jim Mora Decision.
By the way, what do Jim Mora and I have in common?
Neither of us has won a playoff game in the NFL.

This is the worst thread in ST recent memory.
Payton made the call and it was proven on the field to be the right call. Are we playing "what if" after beating a good team and holding a very lethal offense to 17 points
