re: Louisiana recruits, anywhere but here (Bama Land)

I was born in AL. Much of my family resides in Robertsdale/Foley, and my cousin played and starred at Bama.
I moved to south LA as a kid and grew up there, but when I was a senior in HS I had no problem whatsoever considering schools other than LSU. In the end, LSU suited me better and I just felt at home. My family, however, was very upset at turning down Bama considering they felt it was a legacy thing. They forgave me.
Cam's people will look past it and he will forever playfully banter with friends and family. Should LSU gain the upper hand, he may doubt his choice at times. BUT, he will eventually have crimson in his blood as well he should.
He chose the greatest college football dynasty......it wasn't as hard a decision as you think.

So LSU is not an opportunity? Bama is better? That's what you're
saying?

I'm an alum and lifelong fan. It's not my problem if you question whether I'm a fan because of your parochial views.

This is the kind of smugness I get to live with daily. Walk a mile in my shoes brother. Then you might understand.

No 1 OT recruit. Not No 1 recruit. That be Fournette. Robinson will be a good OLineman, but life goes on.

Well it certainly means something in the state of Alabama and to our success as a football team in Louisiana. Much of our recent success is due to us keeping the "fence" up. Without that talent then your fanhood would certainly become less defined.

Hey dude since you have the inside scoop there. Tell me how do folks there really feel about LSU football?

. I suppose some La. players have decided they can live with that, and so should I. It's just a game after all.
18 & 19 year old pampered athletes make decisions based on things other than what the fans feel would be the most important criteria. Most of them don't have enough experience in life to project 1 year down the road, much less 4-5. They make the best decisions for them, we just may not agree with the decision and they may come to regret it later.

Are you referring to the State of Alabama or the State of Louisiana?

I wish the kid all the best and I'm sure we will survive without him. I just don't get that a lifelong Lsu fan could go to Bama. We are not talking about having a job and being transferred. Ask any lifelong Red Sox or Yankees fan about the other. I can never root for Bama. I don't fault him for leaving la, but if he was a true Lsu fan growing up, he obviously never dreamed of playing there.

Bama man.
Generally speaking there is no other team other than Auburn they would rather beat. They know we are their biggest challenge in recent years and for the most part consider our fanbase an unruly mob (earned perhaps?) I can't wait until tomorrow where I almost certainly will hear how they just did that on the recruiting trail.

You never know what they throw at these kids while recruiting. It's much dirtier than most of us would like to believe.

People always have choices. Some have more than others, but we all have them. Whatever choice the OP made to leave LA, it's silly for him to criticize others for doing the same, and to project his "state first" attitude on them.
I get what you are saying and I agree we should not project our feelings for LSU onto kids, but this is an apples and oranges comparison. My dad was transferred when I was a kid. If he had the same opportunities to stay in La he would have. Technically he could have quit and taken a lesser job but that's not a realistic choice for someone with kids to raise. In this case, the choice is the same. All Alabama has as a football program over LSU is more recent additions to the trophy case. Now obviously its Robinson's life and he made the choose he thinks is best for him and that's fine. But its not the same as the choices other La Ex Pats have to make.
