"So the plan is to begin with North America next year and the plan is to provide a streaming service that will allow for PS3 content initially to be streamed firstly to PS4 then PS Vita and then PS3,” said Ryan.
Gaikai will be made available in the U.S. “early-ish” 2014, Ryan confirmed.
That is wayyy earlier than I thought. Backwards compatibility in early 2014 and I think most figured it would be late 2014 before Gaikai was ready.

I'm interested to see how this works and how well. I'm done, flame on

I am sure it will work fine. Don't see how it can be done without a decent amount compression artifacts though.

It's initially only going to stream legacy titles, like The Last of Us, Uncharted, Infamous, Journey, etc. Bigger titles.
Then as time goes on you'll see more and more as it continues to expand.
You will probably see those 2 available when it launches, remote play for sure, and the instant demo's.

INSTANT DEMOS
Gaikai has stated that its streaming technology will be capable of providing instant access to game demos via the PlayStation Store.
REMOTE PLAY
Gaikai will enable PS4 games to be played remotely on the PlayStation Vita.

Well I mean, if this is a possibility, then the whole cloud computing would seem to be feasible.
Correct?
Titanfall for PS4 confirmed.

Yes, Qualcomm is a major investor in Gaikai.
Gaikai is going to be used for Vita remote play, instant demo's, PS1/2/3 backwards compatibility, and sharing your screen to a friends TV, as well as the sharing/upload feature.
It's inevitable, just a matter of how long it's timed for XB1. They kind of dropped the ball a few days ago about it.

I'll take "Things that sound better than they are" for $200 Alex.

I too am skeptical about this service. Does this mean I would have to be online cause I don't believe in the Internet...

I do like the option of being able to play PS3 games on the PS4, but that begs the question, why not just make the thing backwards compatible with some games(Although this would be handy with the Vita)?

Not possible, streaming is all on the server nothing hardware related to the PS4.
If you were to do a disc based backwards compatibility you'd have to fit the PS3 hardware onto the motherboard along with the PS4 hardware.
Then you'd have a host of other problems such as switching between CPU's for certain tasks PS3 related and tasks PS4 related.
All of that isn't necessary via streaming.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is what an emulator does, and is all software.
Also, correct me if I am wrong, but this is what previous consoles have done. For example, the earlier PS3 models.

You are wrong. An emulator would still need the PS3's Cell Processor to run the games. The experts can explain it better:
quote:
The Hardware Solution
Some people don’t understand the technology needed to emulate the PS3 on PS4, and I can forgive them for that. Some people do realize why it’s an issue, however, and have found another solution. Why can’t Sony just go ahead and put the parts needed into the PS4 and release it as part of an exclusive, limited release SKU?
Before we even get into the real issue here, let’s just say this. Even if the rest of this section weren’t true, Sony would still need to get the Cell working alongside other parts of the PS4. I can’t say for certain that it’s impossible, but it brings up some very complicated problems. What happens if you’re playing a PS3 game and press the home button? Which processor handles friends logging in and out? How about video uploads?
How do you swap between processors mid-game?
Is there a motherboard that could take both the cell and the PS4 processor and control them both without error? There’s a reason you need an Intel board if you plan to buy an Intel processor and the same applies for the Cell/PS4.
What they don’t take into account is the extra work needed. Not only paying people to work out the problems mentioned above, but then paying them to build a PS4 that houses all the parts from the PS3 without them overheating or interfering with PS4 processes. Then they’d need to market it, transport it to stores. Then they’d have to explain to the people complaining about the $2000 price tag why it’s so high. There’s just no way it’d sell.

Fair enough, I was just wondering.
As long as it isn't as shitty as onlive I am all for it.
