I assume it's like a 6th. Guess we will find out soon enough.

Meanwhile, the 49ers are loaded with pass rushers. They have Cam Johnson and rookie Corey Lemonier coming off highly impressive preseasons behind Aldon Smith and Ahmad Brooks.

Great. Please don't be in top 3 rounds.
They were going to cut him if not traded. There's no way that it's more than a 6th rounder.
From PFF:

According to Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News, the 49ers have traded OLB Parys Haralson to the Saints. The trade became a necessity for the Saints who lost new OLB-convert Will Smith to a season-ending knee injury. The Saints are transitioning to the 3-4 this season and already had question marks about whether or not their personnel was ready for the change. Now their depth will be challenged even further though Haralson should be a good fit given his experience at the position. Haralson is coming off a season-ending injury of his own as he didn’t take a snap in 2012 after playing primarily in the 49ers’ base defense with OLB Aldon Smith spelling him on passing downs in 2011. He graded at +4.8 overall on 577 snaps that year, including +4.7 against the run. Heading into this eighth year in the league, it’s unlikely the Saints can expect more than average pass rushing production (+0.7 in 2011), but Haralson’s knowledge of the defense and ability to play on early downs should be a good fit. He’s had a strong preseason grading at +5.0 on 51 snaps to this point.

This is good news. Not a spectacular player, but someone who's not going to screw up.

I'll never turn a guy who came from one of the best defenses in football. The more turnover from last year the better.

i was just thinking yesterday how nice it will be to have all of our draft picks for a change. but nonetheless a late pick shouldn't matter.

Basically what I was thinking.

I'm pretty happy about this

My thoughts on this is that he is likely a one year rental(on his final year for $1.1 mil) for a 6th or 7th rounder.
I expect he will be used like Smith and we probably get similar production to what Smith would have given, but at 250ish lbs. he should be much faster(which hopefully translates to better coverage ability).
Given his injury was an arm injury I think he'll be fine health wise.

Much needed trade considering Smith's injury, but it sure didn't take them long to find someone. Must have been in the works even before he got hurt.
From his short bio in the link seems like he's a great team player that will be a good teacher for the young guys.

Played his college ball at Tennessee. Where he was coached by John Chavis.

Now all we need to do is trade to the bills for Byrd he want out of buffalo and he is an upgrade on Malcolm lost Jenkins and roman Harper. Could u imagine Bryd and Kenny at the safety spots

Pretty sure he just signed a franchise tag. Not sure how that would work. But that seems pretty superfluous

Been in the league since 06 and I think this is the first time I've ever heard his name. That's promising.
I'd never heard of David Thomas until we traded for him.

Parys Haralson
All right, I'll divulge some more PFF stats on this guy.
Keep in mind it's preseason and I don't know which parts of the game he's been playing.
As of now, out of 89 3-4 OLB's, Haralson is ranked first for overall stats.
Now, that's with a somewhat low number of snaps (51).
His pass rushing production (+2.1) and run defense (+2.2) have both been quite good, while his coverage production is near the average.
(his pass rushing puts him at 13th, while his run defense puts him at 7th).
He didn't play in 2012.
In 2011, he ranked 19th out of 61 OLB's for overall production, with a strength in run defense.
In 2010, he was ranked 17th of 31 OLB's, with a serious strength in pass rush (+11.2, good enough for 9th in the league).
Overall, this guy looks much better than Will Smith and might even take some of the sting out of the Butler injury.

Now if only we had the $8 mil+ a year he was looking for to spare...

Sounds like 49er fans wanted him on the team and wanted at least a mid-round pick when news circulated he was being shopped around: LINK
Posted on 8/26/13 at 8:44 pm to LSUFreek
So he was basically their Chris Ivory...but for OLBs
Posted on 8/26/13 at 8:44 pm to bonethug0108
Real solid move. Definite upgrade over smith. Coming from that defense, might push for a starting spot which would be a huge pickup.
