What to cook for people who have very little exposure to good food

So a friend is coming over for dinner Sunday evening. She claims she isn't picky but I know that she hasn't tried a lot of things. I want to make something she hasn't tried but I don't want to get too crazy and make something that might be unapproachable.
I was thinking maybe Osso Bucco or something of the sort. Any other suggestions?

If it's truly a friend, experiment and get after it. No big deal. Pick something you would like and hopefully they will too.
If this is a date, I'd be a lot more reserved.

Just trying to play devils advocate a little (bc I have a friend like this who wont eat anything) are you sure she will even try what you make? I find that my friend like this wont even taste anything that isnt in his comfort zone, anytime he comes in town, I end up just cooking steaks bc I know he wont bitch and actually eat that.

I was going to suggest this as well.
Also a salad that might be more creative. She might not have had Arugula or some other types of lettuce.
How about a cheese plate and some fancy crackers?

Whatever you make, keep a frozen pizza handy just in case. I'm being serious, I cooked for this girl in college and didn't realize she was super picky. Ended up throwing a pizza in the oven and watched a movie. Never called her again, I can't be with a picky eater.

Thomas Keller's roasted chicken with root veggies...

I agree, but I have a friend in his early 30s like this and it's pretty much just impossible to expand his eating habits. Hates vegetables, most fruits, orders his burger w/ "meat and cheese only." Still a good friend, I don't judge him .. but I've also given up trying to change him.

I actually thought about doing this with the Thomas Keller recipe that someone posted here once

I like the lamb idea, but if someone is queasy about the poor little lamb, it might be too much for them.
I'd stick with chicken, beef or shrimp and get creative around those proteins.

I call BS.
Seriously though, I have a friend just like this. Sad thing is that he will try anything and then truly just doesn't like things.
I also gave up and let him have his well done burger with bread and cheese only. Or cheese pizza.

Well I think she's willing to try new things. She claims she isn't picky at all.
She's just younger and the food culture around here is lacking. Most people here don't know what they're missing out on.
