Anyone shoot a beretta a400 extreme? Opinions on it?

With the tax free weekend coming up I'm going to buy a new duck gun a little earlier than I was planning on it. That being said, I picked up the A400 today and was surprised by how much thinner it was than the older extrema. Looking at it and the SBE. Not trying to start a pissing match. I know the SBE, but don't know anyone personally who shoots the newer a400. Wondering if there were problems with it at all?

either one of those will be more than you ever need

Like you I believe both are great guns but I give the nod to the Beretta. I prefer it because I'm more comfortable not having to get down so far on the gun.

Have one with 26" barrell for the wife. Its a goo shooting gun. But honestly i have also shot the SBE, SX3 an the A5. Dont see a dramatic difference between them. Its all a matter of brand preference

Shot an Xtrema2 from July 2006 to December 2012, loved it. Somehow convinced myself I needed to make a change so got about ten hunts with my a400 in before end of this past season. Love it so far, does everything my xtrema2 did but a little slimmer and lighter. From research I've done looks like all have found it to be solid, if it fits you.

Bought the A400 at the start if dove season last year and haven't had a single issue with it. I really like the gun and the way it feels. Especially since I can shoot a box of 3 inch mags through it and still be able to hunt again the next day.

Do you guys have the synthetic version? Was wondering how the finish held up on the black matte?

Zero. Best auto on the market. And in.

Best duck gun out there, hands down. I have the a400 and extrema 2 and both are great. They get cleaned once a year and I have had no problems with either and I hunted 45 plus days last year. Only put 3 1/2's through it, so it gets fair share of abuse. I did however make the mistake of picking up the new 3 1/2" A5 the other day and had to buy it on the spot. Have not shot it yet but looking forward to it.

Dad got one as a retirement gift last August. He proceeded to fall off the levee into the rice field before daylight face first opening day of teal season with said A400 leading the way.
Thank God we had a spare 870 on the Gator for him that morning. Took it back to camp and cleaned it up and it's fine. Great gun, if I had the cash I'd jump on one too.

Any thoughts on the finish on the black matte version? We hunt in reggio and its brackish.... the guys with the black matte benellis have to wipe them down after each hunt.

Do yourself a favor.
Go get the bass pro credit card that weekend and take an additional 10% off. The black synthetic runs 1550. After discount and no tax youre out the door for 1400

i just wish i could justify buying one and i would. but with my SBE2 and a franchi I12 (take a friend hunting loaner gun) I would jump on it in a heartbeat if i could unload that franchi i can justify it.

He only hunted 3 times last season (he's almost 70) so I wouldn't have real world results. By wipe down, you mean break it down and clean it? I generally wipe the outside of my gun down each time I pick it up, nothing over the top just a squirt on a rag and a quick once over in case there is anything that could cause rust. I have a stainless steel barreled deer rifle that I learned this lesson on. I figured stainless steel is rust proof, evidently in my case the steel is a low grade or just a coating.

I hunt w 391s Urika (the 3” version that is the previous generation) – great guns – I have had one for bout 4 years (camo no kick off) and never had an issue w/ it. Finish is fine and I clean it once maybe 2x a year. Last year I gave the 3 yr old gun to my 16 yr old and bought another – synthetic w/ black finish and kick off. 3” high speed steel feels like a field load w kick off. My son shoots his a lot for skeet and sporting clays – no problem cycling field loads and again clean 2X per year even though he puts a couple thousand rounds thru it. I talked w a competitive trap/skeet shooter who has put thousands of rounds thru his and its about 8 years old and he has had one part break in that time. He shoots in a year what a hunter would shoot in a lifetime. They are very soft shooting and fit me well. If you can get the Optima extended chokes there is no need to ever buy aftermarket chokes – they pattern really well

I know beretta'a functionality with just about everything they make.... With the exception of the A400. I know they don't put out bad product. Was looking at real world duck hunting situations as feed back on the a400 specifically. I sold guns for 4 yrs, but that was 98'-02', its just Been a while. Talking about wiping down, I meant just wiping the gun down after a hunt. You have to stay on top of the benelli a with the matte finish out there. Mainly trying to figure out if I need the camo or not. Both the SBE and A400 fit well, I didn't even consider it before b/c the extrema fit like shite...

I have the Camo A400 Extreme Unico. I have been shooting 7/8 oz. loads through it on the sporting clays range to see if there were any problems with cycling such a small load. Thus far, it has cycled flawlessly.
Beretta supposedly has a coating on these guns that is resistant to corrosion even in a saltwater environment. Here's a little blurb on it:
