Why is UF still on as a perm opponent in 2014

Forget the 'Don't be a P**sy' logic because they are traditionally one of the stronger teams in the conference over the past 20 years.
This rivalry was dumped on both parties in 1991 for the sake of preserving the Alabama-Tennessee rivalry.
Louisiana and Florida are 3 states apart geographically. EVERY other traditional permanent rivalry game, 'UT-Bama, UGA-Auburn, Ala-Aub, UGA-UF, OM-MSU' involved either a neighboring or intra-state rivalry.
How did this happen? It IS time to let this one go Birmingham

First, I hate the idea of permanent opposite division opponents. Makes for an idiotically difficult schedule to maintain, when a simple rotating one would be fine.
That being said, I like playing Florida. I don't like playing Florida more than our biggest rival has to play them, though.
As for why we got them in 1991, that one's easy. As you said, it was set up to preserve the games between BAMA and TENN and between UGA and AU. When diving up the rest of the pairings, the SEC paired up two programs that were at about the same level at the time, and (although LSU had certainly had more success) fairly evenly matched. It really wasn't the SEC office's fault that LSU decided to suck REAL HARD at the same time Spurrier got to Florida and prison raped the league.

because it is new thing in temporary scheduling brought to you by our wonderful idiots in birmingham; the SEC heirarchy. '14 and '15 is the first of a 2 yr temporary schedule. they will again have to meet and fret over what to do after '15. and to feed the paranoia, they may just be seeing how bama does when they have to play a tough eastern opponent. if bama loses, the will go back to the 1 yr temp. schedules where bama doesn't hve to play anyone from the east.

Cause they didn't vote to end permanent opponents..

I wonder, had these boards been around then, if anyone would have been bitching from 1995 through 2006 when Tennessee went 10-2 against Bama?

Because Tennessee still sucks, if Tennessee becomes a highly ranked team, then the SEC office will decide that it is time to do away with the perm opponent...

Let me go out on a limb here and say that somehow, someway, UF will STILL appear on LSU's 2016 schedule.

FWIW, since the 1992 expansion, here is how both Florida and Tennesse have fared.
Florida: 209-61
Tennessee: 180-82
The fact that BAMA was so bad for a stretch that they couldn't take advantage of TENN is irrelevant. The fact is, that since the expansion, there's been very little comparison between those two programs. It's even worse when we look at more recent history.
Since 2000
Florida: 126-43
Tennessee: 99-65
I'm not saying BAMA oroginally scheduled them because they were weak. They scheduled them because of their tradition. What I'm saying is that THEY REFUSE to engage in a discussion to remove them from their schedule for the betterment of the entire SEC largely because they can chalk them up as a very likely win at this point and hide behind tradition. At that point, pointing out the disparity in the schedules makes complete sense.

Why? It just makes LSU's road to Atlanta that much more difficult. I want Kentucky and Missouri every year.

I like playing UF every year, as long as the gumps play UGA, UF, or USCe.

The entire idea of permanent opponents is even more ridiculous now that the conference has expanded, but if we have to have one it might as well be Florida.

Because its written in the SEC bylaws that Bama never has to play Florida and Georgia in the same season. So LSU gets to.

I'm sure Florida feels the same way about us.
The teams that really get the shite end of this deal are teams like Tenn who have to play Bama every year. At least we stand a chance of winning our match-up.
