None of them was impatient.

Washington: On their 4th coach since 2000. Counting Steve's 5th year the average span of their last 4 coaches is 3.75 years.

UCLA: On their 7th coach since 2000. The guy at the turn of the century had 7 seasons, so including those 7 plus Mora's 2nd thats still 2.85 years.

Cal: Tedford had a long 11-year run but he is gone, on their 3rd coach since 2000.

Colorado: On coach number 6 since 2000, #5 since 2005. Including Barnett's 99-2005 7 season span equals 3.2 years average. From 2005-2012 = 2.25 years.

That's 20 coaches between those 4 since 2000. Sorry but 3/4 have not given their coaches a lot of time. Granted some of their records were awful early and often.

And yes, it can also be argued that Stanford hasn't always shown patience, the previous two coaches before Harbaugh coached a combined 5 seasons and they're on coach number 4 or 5 since 2000.. but clearly they would've liked to retain Harbaugh if at all possible.

Good coaching and recruiting. I'll expand later when I have more time but we've been able to maximize potential on the field better than most programs.

Let me clarify.

Stanford has the largest ATHLETIC endowment in the country.

Their coaching positions are named in a manner similar to department chairs for academic departments, and funding comes from the athletic endowment.

And they weren't absolute garbage prior to Harbaugh. They were going through a dry spell.

Edit for correction:

I forgot about their decision to go to the Buddy System after Ty (who actually had a lot of success there...). They could have called me about the perils of hiring Buddy Teevens as a coach.

Y'all can split the difference. It wasn't like Stanford was going through a generation long slump but they were definitely heading in the wrong direction before the players revolted on Harris.

16-40

That is quite a dry run for the five years before Harbaugh.

I think Stanford is an above average team that plays solid defense. It's just that the PAC 12 is a miserable conference.

Your SEC bias is showing.

Last 4 years of Stanford football: 43-10.

Last 4 years of Alabama football: 49-5

They might not have won any BCS championships lately, but they have been to 3 straight BCS bowl games and will probably extend that streak this year.

And what about during Willingham's last five years before that?

Congratulations. You've just proved the point that others were making regarding coaching hires.

haha, I'm not saying they're "THERE" yet......but the Win-Loss does indicate that they are getting closer to the pinacle.

Buddy was a nice guy, and he actually recruited really well for us. But game day...

Understatement of the century.

Most NCAA Titles (Top 5):

1. UCLA - 109
2. Stanford - 104
3. USC - 98
4. Oklahoma State - 51
5. LSU - 43

Did one of these 4 show anything to prove they deserved another year? No. Plus Gilbertson was pretty much an interim coach that they let get two years for no good reason.

UCLA: On their 7th coach since 2000. The guy at the turn of the century had 7 seasons, so including those 7 plus Mora's 2nd thats still 2.85 years.

3 of these 7 were interim coaches who coached one game.

How is allowing an 11 year run impatience?

2 interim coaches and Embree who was a dumpster fire was half of these 6.

Well you need more than half a brain to get in and make it through Stanford.
