Would a loss in 2011 have been a better result?

Reading the "best plays in Miles era" thread got me thinking...
If Reid wouldn't have intercepted that ball and bama went on to win would it have turned out better for the program?
Personally I wouldn't absolutely despise bama so much because, in my mind, they would have earned it.
But as a program I don't know if it's better to lose in the national championship game after one of the greatest seasons ever or win the sugar bowl after a very good season.
Thoughts?

What's done is done, but I don't know that I could ever look back and regret winning a game. Other than maybe that Tennessee debacle. Just my opinion.

we'd still have played bama in the nc

so give up beating Bama at Bama, and an SEC Championship? a few of my favorite things as an LSU fan?
not to mention this....

If JJ had not under thrown a wide open RS, he could have scored a TD. The game may have never gone to OT, and they probably don't have to play Bama again.

frick NO, when Ford had that run that clinched the game I say down in the stadium and almost had tears in my eyes. That was the greatest football experience I've ever had

No we wouldn't have.

In the minds of most idiots absolutely, though they'll never come right out and say that.
But they focus on that one loss more than any of the milestone wins of that amazing season.
They will never get over the fact that we lost a game after outplaying our limitations throughout the season.
The 2011 team was a victim of it's own success.
I, for one, still think it is the most remarkable season in my LSU watching history. Easily. Only one win decided by less than 13 points.
Ended on a down note, obviously. But still my favorite season. 13-0 SEC Champs beating Big East and Pac champs and #2 team in country away from home and blowout win in SECCG.
Never would have predicted that before the season.

A loss is never a better result. Never. I don't give a frick about any of your circumstances.

Yeah, all the talk leading in to that game was that a close loss by LSU wouldn't knock them out of the hunt.
All things being equal, LSU still would have had the toughest schedule in the country, and the "best" loss.
Who knows, maybe losing would have been better. Maybe then they would have been the ones with a new game plan and fire for the rematch, and Alabama would have been content and uninspired.

I do not think a loss is ever better IMHO.

Was there, one of my favorite moments. Especially the walk out stadium after was epic with the deadpan silence amongst shocked Gumps!

well you got one thing right, had we lost that game, no one would clamor for a rematch in NC. we would've been left out and people would've used the argument that we've seen that game before (06 mich-ohio st) or that we didn't win our conf and putting in teams that don't win conf is a mistake (LSU-OU 03, whatever year for Nebraska).

if ford woulda stayed in bounds on option too. that play was the bigger "if" to me.
edit: the biggest and hardest lesson we learned from that year is that LSU-bama only matters when bama wins.

I think this is 100% not true no matter what the media was spouting at the time.
The pollsters voted SABAN into a Rematch. Miles would never have gotten the benefit of the doubt, especially if we didn't have the added win over Georgia to complete our resume.
No win over Bama or Georgia means OSU's win over Oklahoma while we're sitting at home bumps them.ahead of us, which is what absolutely should have happened to begin with.
We would have had our shot and lost. OSU would have deserved it and gotten it imo.

no i specifically remember ESPN pre game stuff saying that a loss wouldn't have knocked LSU out because they were on the road. but it could hurt bama being at home.
even so, i don't think we make the NC if we lose. they (media/talking heads) would talk us out of the game no matter our case.

it twas. i just think a TD scored in that game (which is essentially what you were saying) would've made for a more definitive outcome in people's minds. i don't think bama gets mulligan if we score a TD in OT with game on line.

Kige this.
As close as the vote ended up being, I think a TD would have flipped a vote or two which is all it would have taken.
That or like five dirty arse bought and paid for coaches not putting OSU like 5th or 6th
