re: Greg Oden to host 2 or 3 teams depending on who you ask.

quote:yeah, I did not expect them to withdraw the QO. This is not the best news for Pelicans as they may feel they have plans for the spot.
It looks like Neal was the 15th guy on the roster. Not necessarily related to Oden, but if they want to offer a contract to anybody someone had to be released. This could also just mean Corey Joseph jumped ahead of him on the depth chart and they did Neal a favor by releasing him.

FWIW it's meeting day and everyone seems to be repeating the ESPN 3 team story rather than the Yahoo! 2 team tweet.

Confirmed to Sun Sentinel from party involved: Heat among teams represented today at Greg Oden workout.

Greg demonstrated, throughout the 4 hour workout, his high work capacity. #Pelicans #Heat #GregOden
Looks like a trainer in Indy, so I'm guessing Oden bias.

From Sheridan on his website
quote:
Greg Oden meets with Erik Spoelstra
ESPN.com reported earlier today that Greg Oden’s camp had narrowed its search down to three teams: the Heat, Spurs, and Pelicans.
Now, reports on twitter are indicating that Oden may be leaning toward signing in Miami:
Erik Spoelstra and Greg Oden met today, as the free agent center’s decision nears.
— Tim Reynolds (@ByTimReynolds) July 23, 2013
While New Orleans has reportedly offered Oden $3 million annually (about twice as much as what Miami and San Antonio would offer), the 25-year-old appears more interested in the idea of playing for a contender.
With the money saved from amnestying Mike Miller’s contract last week, the Heat, in theory, can afford to sign Oden and still save money from what they paid in last season’s luxury tax.
If Erik Spoelstra can convince Oden to sign in Miami, the Heat would potentially have the steal of free agency. Oden, if healthy, would instantly move ahead of Joel Anthony and Juwan Howard in the Heat’s big man rotation.
Scouts have remained impressed with Oden’s conditioning in recent workouts.

Sheridan is such a hack. General sentiment of tweets =/= factual report on current thinking of the Oden camp.

Greg Oden's agent, Bill Duffy, told me Oden will probably pick a team next week and all teams interested remain under strong consideration.
And that's what you'd expect to hear, because despite Sheridan's incorrect reporting, Miami CAN offer over $3 million, it'd just be painful to with the 3.75 x tax rate. The more the Heat think they have a lean from Oden, the less money they'll offer. And that's a reporter from the Miami Herald who would have every reason to sunshine pump an Oden lean.

Well that is obvious. It would pain Sheridan to see any Free agent go to San Antonio or New Orleans

It is really down all to personal preference. If he wants to play with the very best of the best, probably win a ring (before the team starts to fall apart), but have a tremendous amount of scrutiny on him, he goes Heat.
If he wants to have A LOT less pressure on him and to grow with a young team, and make slightly more guaranteed money, its us.
Really a personal preference. I don't know his finances. Most of the time I would want to go for winning that championship, but he might not want that kind of pressure. Who knows.

Apparently fricking ATL is in the mix for him now.

Which suggests to me that Miami is his first choice. They can offer the most money of the usual suspects but they have a lot of reasons not to put in the highest bid or commit to more than one year. It may come down to just how much Miami wants him. Miami's tax rate is lower than I was thinking (had the tax crazy Nets in my head). The tax bill added to $3.18 million would be about $8 million. Do the Heat really want to pay $11 million for Oden?

The Heat have gone from favorites to "heavy favorites". Starting to lose hope.

I am starting to lose hope as well.

I really didn't think he was that kind of guy. I guess he really doesn't think he can be much more than Chris Anderson.
Posted on 7/23/13 at 4:37 pm to WhoDatPelican596
Or he thinks he's 100% and is ready to start for the defending champs.

My only remaining hope is because of Monty.

Really good point. I can't get butthurt here. He's making a decision he thinks will be the best for his career. We threw our hat in the ring, and I'm glad we did
