Does anyone think Payton's year off will HURT his playcalling?

Most believe (me included) that he's chomping at the bit and can't wait to unleash hell on the league this year.
That being said, one of the things that makes him so great is there is no emotion tied to the play call, he doesn't even watch the result of the play sometimes. I just hope he didn't have too much time to over-think things and I wonder if his timing will be off.

No. He will now have the benefit that the rest of us armchair QB's have and know better than the coach himself. Except he's the coach so it's even more better.

absolutely not. In fact, i expect he will probably be better.
Watching the Allstar game this week they said they spoke to Buck Showalter of the Orioles. He spent some time with ESPN before returning to coaching and said it made a big difference in how he sees the game.
And thats baseball which moves at a snails pace compared to football.
Id bet Payton has a much different perspective on the game going in to this year which is a really good thing IMO. sometimes really good coaches can get in to a rut and need to move on to regain that perspective and edge.
Or just do it like Payton and take a seat for a year.

No, the man is a football junkie. He spent the past 12 months studying other teams, learning new plays, and developing new ways to win.
In other words, he should be better this year than ever before.

Belichick between the browns and pats? He was still an asst. during that time though.

There arent many examples of coaches that left on top if their game and then came back. Jimmy Johnson is one, and we know how that turned out.
I look at a guy like Andy Reid. Great coach who i really think needed to move on and start over. we'll see how that pans out.

Most coaches who leave and come back were either fired or they are past their prime.
This is unprecedented for a guy at the very top of the game to be out for a year and then come right back to the same team, QB, etc.
He will be better. Much better.

Payton + year off =pain for other teams.
Dude likely has plays drawn up for the new decade. 9/8/13 (my bday) can't come soon enough. Falcons are sooo fricked!!

the comments Showalter made are what gives me confidence about seeing things much differently.
If thats the case with Payton as well (which is a reasonable assumption to a certina degree) then it can only be good.

It's gonna be like when Goku gets beaten to the edge of life and comes back 10x stronger. Super Saints.

Think a year away and having to watch his team struggle, hurt him in ways we wont understand..... And now its time to bring the pain!!!!
Smile in Roger's face at the end of the year!

I think his playcalling will be improved personally, god knows how many hours of film the guy watched while he was off.
