Been wanting to get an AR15 for some time now. Here are 2 that i've been looking at. Really just a starter rifle for shooting at the range and maybe some pig hunting. Any feedback, positive or negative, will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys.
DPMS Lite 16 A3

I'd go with the S&W. I personally like that it comes with iron sights. I think it's just gonna come down to what you want

Id get the M&P 15 between the two you listed.

S&W Sport - forward assist is rarely used, dust cover is not necessary unless you're going to the beach.

Not having a forward assist or dust cover were both design flaws on the first M-16 that were corrected on subsequent revisions. Can't believe they are selling these without these basic functions. A forward assist and dust cover shouldn't even be considered options at this point.
I say go with a Wyndham Ar-15. They are reliable and already have a good reputation in the short time they have been made. Wyndham was started by the group that originally made and sold Bushmaster now that their non-compete agreement is finished. I have seen them for under 900 bucks and you even get a forward assist and dust cover!

For just recreational use, I think one would be fine without the forward assist and dust cover. Wyndham is probably out of the price range according to OP.

The S&W is listed at 839.00. I have seen the Wyndham for $879.00 at Academy on Siegen Lane. I would pay the extra forty bucks for a forward assist and a dust cover.

Here's seven votes that say the M&P Sport isn't flawed and is in fact an excellent piece for sport and recreational shooting.

No one is paying $879 for a M&P sport. You can get them for as low as $600. I'm also saying that I'm going with Smifn'Wesson from a branding/quality stand point.

I would stay away from DPMS

Pay the extra money for the forward assist and dust jacket.

Of those two, the S&W. They have some really good reviews, and when the next scare comes, you can sell it for $1500 and get you a better rifle.

Why stay away from dpms

Forward assist is not needed on an AR. Period.
If a round isn't chambering, that's a clue that you have a problem that you probably shouldn't try to "solve" by forcing the round into the chamber.
One might be able to make a rational argument in favor of the dust cover, although that's an esoteric feature (unless you're planning to live in the desert or on the beach).
