DESCRIPTION: Plainbelly water snakes (Nerodia erythrogaster) are relatively large, thick bodied, harmless, semi-aquatic snakes. They often can be seen sunning on logs or overhanging branches from which they drop into the water when alarmed.
There are five subspecies of plainbelly water snakes in North America. Two of these are found in Alabama.

We used to call them Blanchards Water Snakes. Haven't heard that term in a long time but that's what the old timers used to call them

start wacking them with a shovel and if they die then thay are good snakes,
they are probably yellow bellied water snakes, the way they congregate.

First thing I thought about when I saw that pic was Indiana Jones crapping his britches.

Throw a 2 lbs tub of tannerite on the dock
shoot the 2 lbs tub of tannerite from safe distance.
Blow dock to hell with 2 lbs tub of tannerite
Kill all snakes
marvel and the destruction.

God I'm scared of a snake. Be it a plain bellied water snake, GDCK, water moxican, rattle snake....even the little green snakes in the yard scare me.
Snakes are God's personification of evil. Look it up - it's in the Good Book.
For anyone that doesn't believe that God exist, my reply would be "yeah, well then how come God made everyone afraid of snakes".
