Wanted to share one of the guns my Pops gave me over the weekend. I'm no aficionado by any means but I know there are a few on this site who might be able to share a little knowledge on it.

The little bit I have read on it is that it's an early 1900's Russian military rifle. It has 7.62x54 stamped on it and is in great shape. I could care less if it's worth a dollar or 10,000 because it was handed down from my Pops. And one day, my son will have it but that's still a ways off because he's only 7.
Speaking of that, sometime around his birth Dad bought him a Henry Golden Boy. I brought it back too and will give it to my son next week for his birthday as a gift from his Pa-Paw (read: Pow Pow)...lol. Of course it's NIB and unfired.
Anyway, your thoughts on the Mosin Nagant are appreciated.

If that is a hex receiver, some people consider that more collectible.
A very long internet classic:
AR15: You can pick off prairie dogs at 300 meters all day long
AK47: You can pick off a deer pretty easy at 300 meters
Mosin-Nagant: You get out of your truck, see an elk on top of a hill, and realize you really can use iron sights that far.
AR15: You measure your misses by sub MOA measurements
AK47: You miss and, and aim a bit lower this time.
Mosin-Nagant: Even if you miss the shockwave of the bullet will kill the animal.
AR15: You are careful to keep in clean in the field.
AK47: You don’t worry so much about some dirt getting in it.
Mosin-Nagant: It still has gritty grease inside it from when the Finnish army put it into storage.
AR15: Your bayonet will do an alright job of butchering your kill if needed.
AK47: The bayonet doubles as a decent hunting knife.
Mosin-Nagant: Your bayonet can be used to spit roast an entire pig.
AR15: Nice and light for carrying over obstructions.
AK47: Handy package for carrying over obstructions.
Mosin-Nagant: You can pole vault over obstructions.
AR15: Can’t run dry or you get seizure.
AK47: Can run dry, but may cause laquered ammo to stick in chamber.
Mosin-Nagant: Just handling the bolt gives it enough oil to operate smoothly.

I bought mine for 90 bucks just cause it was a gun for 90 bucks. It actually shoots really good and is kinda cool.
I got mine from a place that bought a whole crate. It also had those big tuna cans of ammo and the little key that you are supposed to used to open said tuna can. Yea I don't see how in the world anyone in freezing temps was able to use that key to open it. We started using a big knife after about two minutes.

One gun I sort of want but do not have.

I have several and they shoot just fine. They are worth less than $200 unless it is a Finn which is better made and more accurate and would be worth $400+. Just hang on to it and shoot it some and pass it on.
