I have wondered this, do the international players get paid anything for all of these friendlies and WCQ's? Do player's from Spain/Brazil get more than maybe say a Jamaica/Costa Rica?

I was like this when I first got into Soccer like 12 years ago but over time you start to learns more about the game and the players and you find out that club soccer is where it's at.
I still like international soccer but it's sort of like in basketball: what's more important to you, your NBA team or the USMNT? Most would say their NBA team.

Friendlies, the country´s footballing association makes money, when talking of a historic side or reigning champion.
WC
Each country rewards differently, based upon results.

I would imagine that many of the posters on this board, including myself, started off watching international soccer.. World Cups, etc.
From there, we started exploring the various leagues around the worl, the EPL being the most prominent here.
Like someone said, club soccer is way more intriguing and better than International... to the point that some may find this next statement blasphemous, but I care infinetly more about LFC than I do about the USMNT.

Unless you're actually *from* Liverpool, I'd suggest you consider DingIAF.

This is normal actually. Like I said who do most basketball fans care about more, their NBA team or the USMNT?
Hell even in Seattle they put more people in the Link for a big Sounders game than they did for the Qualifier against Panama.

If you took what it would do for the growth of the sport in the US out of the equation, I would rather Newcastle win the Prem than the US win the WC.

You realized the city capped attendance, right?

Yeah but ticket sales were not what they expected it to be

Seattle fell 1,163 short of their cap and still was the best crowd in qualifier history.

Seems like you would miss a lot of good football and could live a lifetime and not see your team win anything. Been able to see my NT in Italy be in 3 World Cup finals, 4 in my lifetime and it would still be unfulfilling to me if there was no clubs to watch.
Blows my mind how much great play the OP is leaving unwatched.

The USMNT winning the WC is more important to me than Liverpool or SKC winning their leagues, but I still find the club matches to be more interesting.

I like it when it's planet vs planet. Those pussies from Mars won't play us though.

What he said. I root more for the USMNT, but the quality of play is better at the club level.

Since I have some mental block of just choosing a random club team to latch on to maybe I'll find one to latch onto in The Hague.

Yeah, I think for someone who didn't live in Europe or have foreign-born parents, you're left picking one of the 8 or 9 most successful teams in the world, and when they are so far away and you have no real ties, it's hard to pick a club team.
And as much as I love college basketball, I rarely watch Big 10 games just for the hell of it, unless it's the last 5 mintues of a game featuring two top 10 teams. I watch the best games like ManU-City along with Champions League, but I don't watch random games between ManU and Stoke or whatever.

Once you start watching club teams, you realize how much better the game can be than when watching only the national teams...
Also to boot you'll no longer be a fair weather soccer fan such as you are now.
