Bass Boat Itch..

ok Fella's, I am getting the itch for a bass/pan fish boat. Nothing fancy by any means, just something to doodle around in. I have my eye on a bass tracker (type) or Triton aluminum with around a 40 horse maybe more nothing less. Console steer, and of course I would like it to be rigged out like a bass boat should be.
Fishing lakes, rivers, bayous... Will mainly fish for Bass, Bream, Crappie (Sac-a-lait for you below I-10 ), Catfish, etc...
This is where the OB comes in.
What boat would you buy? Less than say 20k...
What options are a must? (front/back live wells, integrated cooler, multiple depth/fish finders, lockable storage, etc..)
What should I really be looking out for? (motor type/brand, hull type/thickness, etc..)
Lagniappe... anything else you can think of.
Also, doesn't just have to be the two brands above, if you know of another boat brand, add it in.
Thanks

20k limit? Get a 17' bay boat with 125hp or so.

Always check the used market during hunting season. There's some steals to be had.
Only advice I got

Check out Xpress boats before you buy.

G3 and Xpress make fine aluminum boats. You can find a 17' with a 90 in that price range new, or a good bit less used.

Make sure it has a quality trolling motor and a depth finder up front. Other than that, everything else is lagniappe IMO.

I would suggest 60 horse power be the minimum on an aluminum boat. 75 hp for a fiber glass boat. It's nice to have the extra hp on calm days.
If 20k is your limit you have many many options for a used bass boat. You can buy a very nice one.

Get the engine it's rated for, prop it low for mega arse hole shot, and go catch some reds.

Xpress and g3 are pretty sweet aluminum rigs.
I believe NASCAR fan has one of each.
My grandpa had a 17' xpress with a 90 Yamaha. We didnt damn near everything in that boat.

I have a 2002 Xpress 17' Bass boat with the 115 yamaha (it has the upgraded package - it normally comes with the 90 hp)
It is a great boat. My FIL gave it to me when he got his 18' Xpress. I put in new carpet, new lowrance elite 5 DSI chartplotter/depthfinder and an amp/speakers. I say for a must - have a well powered trolling motor. The carpet has its ups and downs - it is MUCH cooler than bare alum. The down side to bass boat is there isnt much room for ice chest. A depthfinder on the bow would be nice too. The live well is great but wont keep 10+ fish alive unless running all the time so having a fish and food/drink ice chest takes up room. I take it from bayou black to last island (on good days)
If i would be in a position to buy a bay boat, id sell you my Xpress, so if you are still looking next summer, get back with me

Buy as big as you can afford. And try to get a bigger trolling motor if you can.

This is true too. The 17' is pretty small, but it was free . FIL's new 18' is much wider and just looks a whole lot bigger. i would go with 18'-20' if you want to fish more than 2 people

Got an old 16' bass tracker thats pretty old with a 40 on the back. It has all the speed I need. I doubt you should be paying more than 10k if looking at the used markets. G3 and xpress are nice too.

Get a Tunnel hull then you can get where the fish are including Reds and Bass!!!

Keep in mind Black Bayou has 50HP restriction.
I recommend depthfinder/GPS at console and another at the trolling motor possibly just sonar on the front unit. Recessed foot control for trolling motor is nice. Adds room to front deck and easier on the back. Automatic bilge and lockable rod/storage boxes. A good quality used boat is the way to go. Let someone else pay for the initial loss of value. Someone selling a good boat only a couple years old probably didn't' use it much anyways.
