Phil Mickelson or Greg Norman - Whose majors failures are worse

With Mickelson lamenting that this was maybe his last best chance to win a US Open, out of Mickelson and Norman, whose record for choking in majors is worse. Lefty seems like his legacy will be similar to Norman in that he finished second in so many majors.
Mickelson - 4 majors (3 Masters and 1 PGA), 41 PGA tour victories, US Open record 6 2nd place finishes: 1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2013; 2nd place in the Open Championship 2011.
Norman - 79 worldwide victories (20 PGA tour) Masters a total of three 2nd place finishes: 1986, 1987, 1996; U.S. Open finished second twice: 1984, 1995; The Open Championship Won: 1986, 1993; the PGA Championship finished second twice: 1986, 1993.
7 second place finishes for each. Lefty has more major wins, but runner up 6 times at the US Open is pretty incredible without a victory. The 1986 "Norman Slam" is crazy too, holding the 54 hole lead in all 4 majors, yet only winning one of them.

Norman. Phil has won 4 majors. How is this even a question?
Nicklaus finished 2nd place 19 times in majors.

I was too young to watch Norman, but if you compare top 5 finishes, Norman probably takes the cake. Out of the re-runs I've watched, it seems like Norman would also completely shite the bed in a way that Phil usually doesn't

Norman -0 majors
pretty much sums it up
and phil had to go against tiger just to add that on top
Norman won the British open twice - thats 2 majors

Yeah, but the GOAT won a record 18 majors.

I tend to agree. 2006 Winged Foot was pretty brutal though.

Phil has a good chance to win next year as well. Finished 2nd to Payne Stewart last time it was at Pinehurst iirc.
Phil needs to get that US Open title so the multiple seconds are not primary topic of his legacy.

Everyone pisses a few away, but Norman was a complete headcase

Like it is with Sam Snead.

I would say Norman. I think this is Phil's first time to lose a major with the 54 hole lead. Winged Foot is the only real absolute disaster that I can think of for Phil. He usually plays average in the final round of the U.S. open, and doesn't quite make that one shot he needs to move from 2nd place to the winner's circle.

Norman was robbed by the two most ridiculous finishes in major golf history. Larry Mize holed out from 140 or something after a pitiful approach. Bob Tway holed out from the bunker and I doubt he could even see the flagstick.
Nothing like that happened to Phil. He choked. Norman was snakebitten

Norman finished the season on top of the Official World Golf Rankings list on seven occasions, in 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1995, 1996 and 1997, and was second at the end of 1988, 1993 and 1994.
This qualifies Norman as an all time great IMO.

So you honestly believe Greg Norman was a better closer than Phil?

The 1996 Masters was a collapse for the ages.

I think Greg Norman's were worse b/c Phil has closed the deal at four majors. Norman has a higher second place finish ration.
