Saric has been maddeningly non-committal about his desire to play in the NBA next season. Saric’s agent, Robert Jablan, told ESPN blog Bourbon Street Shots that Saric will withdraw from the draft, but a source familiar with the situation said Saric’s representatives will hold off on submitting any paperwork.

Sources say Saric is happy playing for KK Cibona Zagreb and believes another year in Europe will better prepare him for next season.

Saric’s reps have been looking for a lottery guarantee, but so far no team has been willing to commit a pick. Still, An Eastern Conference executive described Saric as “skilled beyond his years.” A Western Conference talent evaluator said Saric is “the best passing big man in the draft,” and several personnel men cited his diverse offensive repertoire as proof that the 19-year-old Saric will be able to play right away.

Perhaps more important, Saric has the drive to get better. “He’s a workaholic,” a scout said. “He lives in the gym. With his basketball IQ, you’re talking about a kid with All-Star potential.

I kind of want this dude to just pull out already and be done with it. Not a fan of spending the 6th pick on a stash.

I'm not against the draft and stash idea, but I just do not want to draft him. Just think his athleticism will limit him in the league.

quote:

One main topic of conversation among scouts in attendance this morning was Dario Saric's reported decision to withdraw from the 2013 NBA Draft.

Raising the ire of many, one team picking in the teens opined, “[Saric was] not as accessible as he needed to be during the draft process; information hasn't been forthcoming outside of one draft blog. We can't draft a guy like that without getting him in our gym and without a physical or interview."

"He's really not even that good," says another NBA exec drafting outside the lottery. "He played in a terrible league and he was just average there. Which coach will play him as a point forward in the NBA? I don't see it unless he significantly improves his defense and shooting. He's not a guy that can create his own shot in the half-court in our league."

Most teams we talked to say that in all likelihood he did not like the information was receiving about being projected to be picked in the 20-30 range and that concerns about his buyout were the key factor in his decision to pull out considering his draft range.

So since I'm not "allowed" to say I'm not impressed, I'll just quote someone who is.

I am actually am a fan of the stash, especially if he can develop for two years and not start his rookie contract. We can continue to tank , and then straight to the ship'.

I'm stunned. Stunned I tell you.

Do team promises really carry weight anyway? I suppose you piss off an agent and his agency if you lie to them, but it still seems about as solid a gamble as a guy telling a girl he'll call her.

There is little point is not using the time available to you to get maximum information. Regardless of his intentions, it's best to wait until the last minute to file the paperwork if he wants to withdraw.

As far as promises, there is no formal weight, but in the end, you are messing with a union. What you do to one player, you do to all of them. Best to play nice.

Vanjak told @sofoklo13 Dario Saric will "definitely play in Cibona next season," and he'll decide whether to withdraw "in a couple of days."

Sounds like even if he stays in the draft, he's still gonna stay overseas.

It will cost him $1 million to come to the NBA this year. Maybe if he gets picked at 6 it's worth it, but I think he's starting to realize that won't happen. Donatas Motiejunas easily had more hype than Saric and he ended up going 20th.

I'm all for drafting the kid and stashing him, but doing that at 6 seems too high.

Not a surprise. He's just going to wait until the last minute to see where he will go.

And no matter what, he stays overseas a year.

Our boy Fletch tweeted last night that he thought Saric was #1 on our board. I had sold myself last week on picking him, only to back off that when he might be out, then sell myself on others, realizing picking Saric was a bad idea.

I don't know what to think anymore.

Would an extra 3 million really make that much difference in FA this year? I mean I guess it would, but it is REALLY hard to sell a beleaguered fanbase on a Euro they have never seen that will stay overseas for at least a year.

I know in a perfect world they shouldn't, but fan PR has to be in their minds at SOME point.

If they pick Saric, they sure as shite better be making some splashes in FA.

If he isn't coming, then leave his arse alone. I know the whole argument for draft and stashing him has been that no one we draft at 6 will make a huge difference this year, but the NBA/USA life coming from Europe is an adjustment (ask Alex Len). Even if he averages 5 minutes per game this year with us, to me, that's better for his development than playing 30 minutes against Europeans.

You can say that again!!!

Agreed.

But I still think a pick and stash at #6 is too high. Although Rubio was the 5th overall pick. But I don't think anyone is saying Saric is as good as Rubio.

This draft is just so crazy. I'm going to stick to my hardline I've taken for the time though and say we pick Len, Burke or Saric.

Jonas Val was the 5th pick as well and he stayed over a year. And he is looking pretty good.

I hope he pulls out of the draft. I am sick of his back and forth crap and #6 is too high to pick a stash that really is a project. PASS!
