Not saying anyone is a lock to come back after round 10 but at this point it would be a poor decision to sign after round 10 if you have a chance to prove more. At this point you are looking at signing for $100k-ish or less.
college seniors sign for peanuts. any pretend scout should know that.

Good luck there Mainieri. Going to be some unhappy folks
great problems to have as a fan, a team, and a program. some hearts are going to break and you have to feel for those kids who miss the cut.

I agree it's not a bad problem to have. Always should be looking to improve the team in any way...in baseball it's unfortunate though guys have to get the cut that are either currently on the team or a signed recruit simply because the coach should and in this case does prepare for the worst in the draft. Mainieri probably realized he could lose up to 4-5 ish guys alone in the recruiting class not even knowing for sure where some of the underclassmen might also go in it.
Sucks, but you have to do what you have to do in baseball with the way it's setup. I know most folks here hate every year when the cuts time comes around but if he didn't do it this way we'd probably be at quite the competitive disadvantage.

Yeah. With the new mlb draft and signing rules, coaches are going to be able to go after high profile talent that would have been historically unattainable and actually have a shot. The college game should improve over the next 5 years across the board.

Yep, Bregman, possibly Longhi...these are guys with the old rules they very well are gone.

I'd say Longhi's a lock to make his way to LSU. There is just no way he signs anywhere from round 11+ given his bonus aspirations.

What time does the draft start today?

Good post! Interesting offseason to come for the roster.
No doubt.
At catcher, Kade Scivicque has to end up elsewhere if Ross stays.
Sciambra seems most likely to go if he wants to play at all next year. He is good enough to play for a Southland school in the area and do very well.
Gotta be the JUCO guy Hale, who would be crazy to want to come to LSU when he won't play.
Mmhmm...I think Sewald, Butler and Devall may all transfer. And the LA high school signees like Mitchell, Cartwright and/or Stallings may be better off going to LSU-E or Delgado to develop.

Cant say I disagree much with that assessment. Although I think Sewald has a lot of potential and would hate to see him go. I also think Devall is a future Bertuccini type that I want to keep around. Just love how he tosses. He's started 2 games in summer league so far and has 14K to 2 BB in 7.2 IP. Butler is a guy I do think they likely let go.

I wish they'd send the LA signees to JUCO rather than lose Sewald and Devall. But I think they have real doubts about Sewald, a late bloomer who needs innings somewhere. I doubt LSU has enough innings for him next year.

Picks will go fast today, already almost 10 in first 5 minutes in Round 11
Posted on 6/8/13 at 12:15 pm to thunderbird1100
Took less than 15 minutes to go through round 11
Posted on 6/8/13 at 12:16 pm to thunderbird1100
Anyone of significance went?

OU just had another pitcher drafted in the 12th round. A reliever who has a 5.15 ERA.
