as terrible of an idea of hitting him ninth is, this may actually be worse.
nah. Katz went 3/4 today. Rhymes followed every one of those hits with a routine double play grounder. Frick, forget Rhymes. We don't bunt enough at all.

Today we had the leadoff runner in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 9th innings. We sacrificed that guy over zero times with the next batter. That's ridiculous. You've got to get that guy on 2nd with one out. We could've had 12 outs with a guy in scoring position if we knew how to bunt. Instead, we had zero at bats with a guy in scoring position with less than 2 outs. That's unacceptable in a game that we had 11 hits.

They did attempt a bunt once, but the catcher made a great play on it and got the lead runner.

That said, I agree with you.

That is good strategy that maximizes expected run potential. I would be fine if we never bunted, except for maybe extreme scenarios like late in the game and we only need one run.

Almost every hitter on the team has an OBP above .380 and you want to just give away outs?!
