Nola already sat an extra week. His pitch count was high. It was the right move. He had like two weeks between outings? I understand he threw between now and then. But no reason to have him extend that game just for the SEC tourney title.

The tournament is important. SEC titles are important, I'm sick and tired of people saying they aren't.

SEC titles and winning the tournament are not the same thing. And the only way winning the tournament would be important would be if we needed to do so to get into the NCAA tournament.

Fine to not burn up Nola but I was wondering why he didn't bring Cotton in to start the 8th? Let him go 2 innings and see if we could get a run.

Well for starters, if Cotton pitched yesterday he was probably done for the weekend. Mainieri is going to be trotting out our bullpen guys for 3-4 trips this weekend.

I don't think bringing him in for the 8th was ever even an idea. He went with 2 guys that have been consistently good all year long. If we had taken a lead in the 8th Cotton would have pitched the ninth. You think if Cotton had pitched an inning on Wednesday and an inning on Thursday he wouldn't have been able to pitch again on Sunday?

Yes, it was a very smart move.

All I personally want to see from this tournament is 6-7 good innings out of our 3 starters and no injuries. So far we're on the right track.

he threw 110 pitches. In his complete games he threw less. Definitely a smart move.

I disagree. I will never buy into the idea that it is better to lose than to win.

While winning the SEC tourney might be good, the tourney doesn't get you to Omaha. Then again you could be sacrificing your top 8 seed, but I think we are in the driver seat for a Super Regional site.

Bro, 108 pitched in 7 innings....

And you think we are at risk of losing a national seed? We could have been 0-2 and still sit at #4.

Yes I agree. SEC tournament means nothing. It's fun to win it, but for a team like LSU and Vanderbilt, it's really just great practice for the regional and super regional.

CPM not going to risk regional/supers/OMAHA wins for SEC tourney wins.

I am sure CPM would love to win them all but playing 3 games is all he really wanted to happen.

BTW ... South Carolina has not made the SEC tourney finals since 2004 and they have played in the Championship series the last 3 years.

Losing in the SEC tourney is not all that bad.

... 108 pitches , 7 innings .. absolutely pull the guy.. correct move..
.. 1-1 game , Nola did all he could do .. now , LSU getting only 1 run since 1st inning of game 1 against 'Bama - thats 17 innings and only 1 run - that is a concern . Deja vu to getting just 2 runs in 18 innings against USCe at the Box .. Tiger have a little habit of going VERY long stretches without scoring with high runner LOB ... makes me nervous , true dat, cher ...

It's quite a leap in logic to suggest that I was saying that.

There is no reason to over extend to win the SECT. We don't need to risk our pitchers arms to win a meaningless trophy. There is too much on the line the next few weeks.

The tournament is being used to get guys ready for the NCAAs, as it should be. The outcome is secondary, but that doesn't mean it's better to lose.

What's frightening is that the bull pen has not looked good against Ole Miss or Arkansas. We will face much tougher
Competition in the Quest for NC.
