Miles has had some big gameday meltdowns and people remember that stuff. Otherwise, Miles does a very good job and has had great success, but laying an egg in the Bama NC game, the Ole Miss "spike" game, and numerous other clock management and play-calling debacles over the years tends to stick with people.
This is reality.

Athlon is trash, absolute fricking trash. Les Miles behind James Franklin and Dan Mullen? Seriously? Hell he's better than Mark Richt too. Kevin Sumlin is too early to tell.

I could understand them having CLM at #4 on that list but to have Franklin, Sumlin and Mullen ranked ahead of him basically reveals the list to be garbage put together by people who either based their votes on just last year (and even then its wrong) or based it on sportscenter highlights.

I mean Jesus; Franklin and Sumlin had marginal success in their FIRST GD YEAR IN THE CONFERENCE??

Had he won on 1/9/12, he would have put all doubters to rest. Instead, he had to bring his bed sheets to the landfill because had he thrown them away in his own trash can, his neighborhood would have had to evacuate.

This. 1/9/12, would have gone a LONG way helping Les' image. That loss is on him and nobody but him.

This. Win that game and he's mentioned among the all-time great college coaches. Lose respectably (e.g., 17-13,21-14,etc.) and he'd still garner respect as one of the great current coaches. Losing like he did makes him like Dan Quayle. Regardless of any good he does, the press and public are waiting to bring up "potatoe".

Les sucks as a game coach. Face it. But as for underachieve - what about Richt?

Losing

Hey clown, tell us how many head coaches have reached two BCSCGs, won three west titles, two SEC titles, and won 85 games since 2005 while playing in the best conference in college football?

Only a fool judges a eight year career at LSU off a loss in a fricking BCSCG.

College is as much about recruiting as coaching and Miles is OK in that area.

Well, you have announcers making jokes about time management, the "mad hatter", and eating grass. That plus the abovementioned factor into the 7th place ranking and other surveys/articles where Les doesn't get lot of respect

Like it or not....agree with it or not.... The medias perception of Miles is that he is moron...

From what I have observed, most of the fans of opposing teams concur with this assessment.

Most friends of mine who are fans of other programs love Miles for his personality but think he's an average game day coach. They'd still take him for their program though.

They are a joke and they knock LSU every year

Yea, I can remember reading Athlon from the eighties or farther ,they always trash LSU. Im not even going to read this thread. Plus I just thumb through Athlon on the mag stand, its a waste of money.

Spurrier should be lower. The old ball coach is unique and quirky and a lot of fun, but he's been pretty much insignificant for a decade. South Carolina has been good for a couple of years out of the decade he's been there. Saban is easily the top and miles should be close behind. Let's not give too much credit to a guy who hasn't coached an sec game in bielema.
