but I know the WiiU will pick up once games start launching later this year.

Later this year the other two consoles drop and will have features that the WiiU just doesn't have. Games are only going to do so much to drive people to the WiiU and then it will mostly be their loyal fans that want to see how Nintendo can shove Mario into yet another game.

Nintendo will have had a whole year ahead of the other two and failed to seize the opportunity. Why? Not because of lack of games but because the gimmick gaming crap is over. Kinect and PS move included.

Everyone bought a WiiU then after a month or two the gimmick wore off and they were left to collect dust. You will have your loyal fanbase like I said but the people that bought a Wii for the gimmick of motion play aren't falling for a gimmick (yes the WiiU with the tablet is a gummick) again.

I'd be pretty bored of my console after a month or two if it had no games to play as well. At this point all it has is the gimmick. People were saying the same shite about the 3DS and once it got some games out the sales started to roll in.

Right now the only WiiU games out that are worth a crap and aren't cross-platform ports are MH3U and Injustice. One of those is a very niche genre and the other is a fighting game. Not exactly console moving software (though by all reports, Capcom is pleased with MH3U sales).

They are already losing their grip on this and will continue to do so unless they start making cell phones and tablets soon.

Until phones get buttons or games with actual depth, there will always be a place for true handheld gaming.

eta2:

The DS launched ~December 2004 and had 35.61 million units sold by the end of December 2006 (2 years of sales).

The 3DS launched ~March 2011 and has 31.09 million sales by the end of March 2013 (2 years sales).

The 3DS is barely behind the pace set by the best selling handheld of all time (and 2nd best selling console of all time), yet you claim they are losing the market.
