HELP

I've been in the market for a new(er) vehicle for a while now. I've jumped back and forth between types of trucks for several months, but I think I have decided to go with a Jeep Wrangler. Reasons being, I don't need anything too large, but would like something that is good on dirt/in the woods. And they're a freaking blast to ride in.

I've sworn my entire life that I'd never "throw away money on a Jeep". But I think it's about to happen.

Here is where I need the OB's help... For an outdoorsy type, I don't know how to do a lot of things my outdoorsy friends do. For instance, I've never run a trot line, but I'm a beast with jugs.

And...

I don't know how to drive a stick shift (GASP). I would like to learn to drive a stick, but I'm not sure I want to actually own a stick.

What do my heroes of the OB have to say about this, other than that I'm a girly man?

Do I learn to drive a stick and buy a manual transmission Jeep, or would it be better to go with an automatic? It's my understanding that sticks are better for serious off roading, but that will be a rarity for me. Most of my use will be highway miles, with substantial "woods" use during deer season.

Thanks for any advice.

Mother of God! Just kidding. You could get a cheap beater car with a stick and learn on it for a few months.

I have to ask...why do you not know how to drive a stick (no homo)?

You're a girly man?

This will be your first time driving a stick.

I wholeheartedly disagree. I had a Rubicon with an automatic and it was MUCH better and more enjoyable to drive on and off road, and I did some pretty sketchy rock climbing in it.

Get a manual. They are fun. Give it a month and you will be fine.

Manual transmissions are fun to drive but, they suck if you drive in traffic frequently.

They are easy to learn and you will pick it up in a few minutes.

Go for it.

They have a new Scrambler out now that seems pretty cool, saw a couple as I passed a dealership last week.

First vehicle I bought was a '93Jeep Cherokee. Put 213K miles on it. Great trucks. I now have a standard Wrangler and love it. Knowing how to drive a standard has been very helpful in trips to Central America where they are more common. Also helped with tractor driving.

Maybe back in the day, when all the vehicles that were considered "off-road" pretty much only came stick or the auto was a POS.

in the current day, Auto's rule. go to an event, most will be Auto.

If you need any help on any mods or what is worth it on the stock heep, Ask. I can send ya in the right direction. I have done a thing or two to mine

As long as you have a pecker, you should be able to drive a manual

I have 2 4x4fs a f250 & a according to the ot a women's car a fj cruiser with a 6 sp mt. My first car was a cj5 but Hands down the fj will do anything I put it through. Wheeling whereas my truck is just too big. The 4 door jeep is great for passengers vs the fj but its just me & mrs cracker so back seat is not an issue but i have had people ride back there with no complaints. I ordered a rooftop tent like this set up for camping & hunting. Plus the resale on the fj is great.

Good luck.

No one in my family has had any with Jeeps.

(but if you have one in college, it is a babe magnet)

Good luck finding a standard, jeep wranglers tend to be automatics now. I personally drive a standard 2 door wrangler, of course I'm neither a woman or a Bama fan
