It made national news. The killer avoided the death penalty and still lives.

I haven't forgotten my friend. RIP Connie.

Is that the girl that lived near the golf course? Or maybe that girl committed suicide? Timber Trails is the neighborhood, I think?

Did the killer ever give a reason behind the crime?

I remember her well. I was two years behind her. She was very nice. A beautiful cheerleader who even took time to talk to dorky little me one-on-one in the hallway with noone else around.

Which house did Bryan Brown live in ? I didn't know that the killer lived in TT too....

quote:

Connie Smith, seventeen, was murdered on May 14, 1983 in Tioga, Louisiana. Bryan Brown, a twenty-one year old who lived in Miss Smith's neighborhood was indicted for the murder, convicted and sentenced to death.

quote:

After Bryan Brown was arrested and charged with the murder, he escaped from prison. Seven months later he surrendered to authorities in California and was brought back to Louisiana. Brown's escape, recapture and extradition increased the publicity and coverage of the case. Each time the case appeared in the paper, some version of Miss Smith's death and defendant's arrest, escape and re-arrest was rehashed. Readers were often reminded that Brown had been out on bond for an armed robbery charge at the time of the crime.

I know a few people from around that area, and I've been around there a few times. Hard to believe people getting murdered in that sleepy little place.

I graduated from Tioga in 98 and I remember my older brother talking about this when I was a kid. I had many friends from timber trails and still do.

Remember the murder quite well. I am not sure that neighborhood has ever been the same since. Killer avoided the death penalty, but won't be going anywhere during this life. Be assurred that a family member will be at every parole hearing if his sentencing even contains an eigiblity clause for parole consideration at some point in the future.

Beautiful girl. Pity the bastard could have not been shot to death on sight.

I didn't know her Ace, but remember when it happened. 3 kids from PHS (separate events) were murdered within a year of Comnie.

I'm sorry for what happened, but you must have been a good friend to remember.

I lived with my Aunt for 1 year in 1986. I was a Freshman at Tioga High that year. I remember this murder being mentioned.

Wow - I have spent many, many days in the Timber Trails neighborhood. My grandparents managed the golf course right next to it for quite a while. Alpine Country Club I believe it was called?

I had never heard of this, but I just asked my dad about it, and he remembers it vividly. What a sad story.
