quote:

"We will never change the name of the team," Snyder told the newspaper in an interview this week. "As a lifelong Redskins fan, and I think that the Redskins fans understand the great tradition and what it's all about and what it means, so we feel pretty fortunate to be just working on next season."

quote:

"We'll never change the name," Snyder told USA Today. "It's that simple. NEVER -- you can use caps."

While I don't the Skins, and think Snyder is an idiot as far as running a team is concerned. That is great to hear. Not that I ever thought the DC city council had any say.

And the media will not stop pushing for a change and talking about it.

Its a shame that we will just have to ignore it but I guess that's what we have to do. Just tune it out.

Today, "Redskin" means Washington football player. Maybe it didn't a century ago, but it would be a shame to change the name because of an obsolete definition. And I'm a Native American myself.

Pretty messed up, imo. Especially considering the fact we jacked their country and slaughtered the majority of them.

I'm shocked that people are praising him for keeping a racist nickname. Redskin is the Native-American equivalent of the n-word. If the team were named the Washington "n-words" it would be a HUGE problem. Why isn't this?

Ahhhh the absolutely meaningless fan pride/great tradition mumbo jumbo. Its a racial slur, there is nothing to be proud of. Its all about protecting there brand (money).

"Pride means virtually nothing. A team could be nicknamed the Buttchuggers and people associated with it would still be "proud" of them, whatever the hell that means. The Eagles are a proud franchise. The Giants are a proud franchise. Pride is the single most abundant commodity in the sporting universe. It has about as much value as a Canadian penny. Furthermore, you can clumsily justify virtually any long-standing practice just by saying the words "pride" and "heritage," as if the history of having a remarkably offensive team name somehow renders it inoffensive, which is logic for stupid people."

Yep, just quoted a deadspin article. What of it.
