if salmon can legally launch his boat, he can float his boat on the lake wherever he wants (unless there is a man-made canal that is owned on both sides and can be closed off). unless i really misunderstand louisiana law.

Here chad I'll help. I'm assuming this is along Red River. And if it is, and you can't reach it from the river, it's private property. Not public. Which means the old man is right and you are technically trespassing. You'd need to see the plots, but I'd be willing to bet he didn't build that dock on his neighbors property. I think we all agree about trespassers on this board...
If you have access to the lake, you have access to fish anywhere on the lake that is accessible by boat/kayak. The guy even admitted we weren't illegal just called it a "social etiquette" thing (his words not mine). We never stepped on his land or his dock, we cast underneath it from a watercraft.

If you can access it from a public waterway, it is too, a public waterway in the state of louisiana.

Depends on what you mean by legal access. If that's rights granted by a landowner and you entered from his property, technically you can only fish his portion of the lake. Now normally what you get is the landowners all just kinda agree to share it, but if one of them wants to keep his honey hole for himself, he can. And you might be hearing from the guy that let you fish there about it if that guy gave him a call.
Now if you got there via the river, he can go frick himself.

okay now youre just running out of material.
There's no reason, legally or etiquettally (add that one to the OB lexicon), to avoid fishing a pier on public waters that is not already being fished.
I'm wondering if Chadboy is the pier owner who prompted the OP to post.

Yes, but if the land is flooded for a certain period of time, it becomes state property.

If you can reach it by boat, it's game on. You can't set foot out of the boat though.
Had this conversation with WL&F agents coming out of the Army Ammo plant on Dorcheat with a couple limits of ducks one day. Since we waded, we were trespassing. Had we gone in in boats, they couldn't do a thing about it.
Got a nice certified letter from the army to back that up telling me to frick off shooting their ducks.

No, the guy bitching at us. He used the words "social etiquette" and when Salmon told him we weren't illegal he said he knew that but asked if we had ever heard of "social etiquette"

post on La sportsman the dock location and explain how hot that spot is. Post you left with the fish biting.
That guy will be stacked with boats at his dock this weekend

like we said, the guy admitted he did not own the lake, or any portion of the lake, he just thought it was rude of us to be fishing around his dock
but he used a few more "fricks" to get his point across
