Shocking, I tell you! Shocking!

It doesn't work that way. Surely you've seen all those photos of Alabama players driving cars worth $25,000-$30,000 before. Or Mark Titus mentioning in his book that numerous OSU football players drove similar cars worth $25-30K. That is how much Thomas spent. The whole lawsuit came about because he didn't pay the $100,000. Maybe you remember the days of Brandon Bass driving a Mercedes on the LSU campus. The fact that someone spent a large amount of money or is in possession of something worth a large amount of money is not enough for the NCAA to do something. There has to be an actual paper trail for the NCAA to do something. Thomas's settlement of the lawsuit and the ensuing non-disclosure forms pretty much guaranteed that there would never be a paper trail for anything.

Not once in that article does it say anything about coach K having knowledge or being some how complicit.

Same conclusion was made by the NCAA in both the scandals's involving Calipari teams, but their victories were vacated.
Why is that the case?

That is, if Memphis can be penalized for playing Derrick Rose, even though the NCAA initially cleared Rose and to date has never accused Memphis of playing a role in what caused Rose to be ineligible, then why wasn't Duke penalized for playing Corey Maggette under slightly different but mostly similar circumstances?

If you want to trash Duke, link the Duhon article in the Times-Pic.
The Maggette thing is complete bullshite from Worldwide Gary. Honestly, this Lance Thomas case is much shadier than the Maggette thing, although I still can't figure out what the hell is going on with Thomas.
Here are facts about the case. No one will deny these things because everything I listed is an objective fact.
Fact 1: Myron Piggie is a former drug dealer who wants to create an AAU powerhouse.
Fact 2: Myron Piggie's team is centered around Kansas City-based players.
Fact 3: JaRon Rush is considered the superstar of the group and receives the bulk of the gifts.
Fact 4: Kareem Rush is also involved in the AAU team although he receives much less money.
Fact 5: To strengthen the team, Piggie recruits players for a few tournaments from outside the KC area. Those include Byron Eaton of Dallas and Corey Maggette from outside Chicago.
Fact 6: Maggette and Eaton play several tournaments with the Piggie team.
Fact 7: All four players receive money from Piggie.
First thing I am listing that isn't a fact, but it's a conclusion NCAA investigators reached: Investigators from the NCAA believe that Jaron Rush received about $20K from Piggie. The rest received less than $2K because they were either considered less valuable (Kareem Rush) or had a very limited role on the team (Maggette and Eaton).
Fact 8: Corey Maggette leaves Duke after his first year and goes pro. Piggie's payments are not known until after he goes pro.
Fact 9: The other players all stay in school.
Fact 10: The NCAA suspends the other players involved. They have no jurisdiction over Maggette.
Fact 11: JaRon Rush gets by far the heaviest punishment. Misses more than double the games of Eaton and Rush. This is in direct correlation to the money received by the players from Piggie.
Fact 12: No program, not Oklahoma State (Eaton), Duke (Maggette), UCLA (JaRon Rush), or Missouri (Kareem Rush) receives institutional penalties because of what their players received from Piggy.
But in Worldwide Gary's article, you can't find the words Rush, JaRon, Kareem, or Eaton anywhere in the article. The cocksucker acts as if Duke received a benefit that the other schools didn't. That is an outright lie of omission.
ETA: Just found an SI Link that said JaRon Rush had $6300 given, not $20K. But I was right about Kareem and the others getting $1800 or less

Why was Memphis retroactively punished after the season and Duke was not?
Duke still has their Final 4 banner from that year, Memphis is not.
People call Cal shady and a cheater and Coach K is not.

Maybe cause its happened at 2 schools with Calipari? And sorry but having someone paid to take an SAT for a player is as bad as it gets

And the NCAA said he had nothing to do with either of them, but he has still been punished. Coach K has similar problems and doesn't even get a slap on the wrist.

I don't know. The NCAA is wildly inconsistent and has been for decades. Fact is none of the schools in the Piggie case got a different institutional punishment from Duke. However, Maggette escaped punishment from the NCAA since he was outside their jurisdiction.

Well, there are about a billion circumstantial things that indicate Cal is one of the biggest cheaters in the history of college sports, from his close friendship to the biggest runner in the game to the fact that Derrick Rose or "Derrick Rose" traveled to a city he has no connection with whatsoever to take a standardized test, which just happens to be the hometown of said worldwide runner who is now an agent at CAA.
However, the NCAA hasn't officially proven anything against Cal, including Camby's chain (which I agree Cal had nothing to do with). So to answer your question, I guess people look at suspected actions in addition to official NCAA declarations.

Those are all bowl gifts, I bet. I think the Dr. Dre headphones are given by almost every bowl committee.
I tossed in the Brandon Bass thing because my friend lived in a dorm with him and saw him drive that sweet ride. It just seems like there's more documentation of Alabama players in photos and things like that.
ETA: But my whole point is that the NCAA can't just cut scholarships because Trent Richardson is driving a nice car. They need some evidence.

Man I saw plenty of crap at UNA in the 90's. I can't imagine how bad it is at major colleges now. I hate hearing people whine about paying players.
