It's pretty common practice for potential UDFAs. If a team drafts you the contract is invalid anyways.
This. The Eagles were out of draft picks so they just got started on signing him in case he wasn't drafted. If he was the last pick of the draft, the Eagles would have no rights to him.

Shepard tweeted with about 10 picks left in the draft that he was an Eagle.
I would guess it is a case of him and the Eagles agreeing to terms verbally assuming he does not get drafted in the last few picks. Then after the draft all the papers were signed.

It is weird, i get the hate for this kids cause of how much of a attention seeker he his but i dont get the LOVE for him. I mean he was mediocre in college.

I think he's a good person/citizen but still suffers a bit because of the high expectations out of high school. It's like his reality has been warped from all of the praise and pub he received in the past.
He's quick and all but was waaay too easy to tackle and had bad hands. Not that this hasn't been said a million times already.

I think so too. I cant wait to see the meltdown on the rant if he is productive.

He said he took his name off the board

No. I just don't think he was as good of a player that alot of people here make him out to be.

I actually took myself off the draft board during the draft. Teams started calling me probably in the middle of the sixth round asking me ‘is it true that you've signed with a team already,' and I actually got it out of the way before the draft was over.

they cant have him do well, and thus have Miles decision be wrong. They will actively put this kid down and attack him. watch, this isnt the first rodeo.
On the same playing field, there are some fans that only want to see Russell Sheppard be successful so that it can be a knock against Miles
I would love to see Sheppard be successful because he was a good leader and ambassador for LSU for four year (personally i dont see it happenening but that doesnt mean im rooting against him) but at the same time if he were successful, i wouldnt make Miles to be some terrible guy for not using him right

He really wanted to play for Kelly.
Don't blame him.

“Russell Shepard has not signed a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. However, we did come to terms on a contract with he and his agent after the draft was completed. We anticipate he, like all of the rookie free agents we have agreed to terms with, will take a physical examination upon arriving in Philadelphia prior to next week’s rookie minicamp and then sign a contract."

Why does everyone keep saying this? Going on Twitter and whining about playing time is a good ambassador? Saying youre going to write a Tell All book is a good ambassador?
I continue to comment on this because I see a kid that had 4 years to crack the starting lineup and couldn't. I see a kid that couldn't see the field as an upperclassmen over a very mediocre receiving corps. I see a kid that has no elusiveness and dropped passes regularly that as a receiver, you have to catch. I see a kid who whined on twitter after the NC game about going pro, blah blah blah.
You want someone whos a good ambassador for LSU? Give me Jacob Hester. Give me Matt Flynn, who sat the bench and kept his mouth shut before leading his team to a national championship. Give me Patrick Peterson. Hell, give me Shaq, Kevin Faulk, or Tommy Hodson. Russel Shepard wouldn't crack my top ten of guys who represent this university well.
This topic continues to come up because of you "fans" that are looking for a reason to hate Coach Miles. Period. \thread.

Wow. Nice reason that you want a former tiger to succeed, so you can shite on the current program. Thanks for confirming how big of a piece of shite fan you are that we already knew.
The same was said about jarret lee. People wanted him to succeed in order to shite on the team. What an embarrassing segment of the fanbase.

No, people want him to succeed because he was a great ambassador to LSU. The questions about what that success means in terms of miles player development is a wholly separate question.
